The Witcher season 4 is introducing characters who will be key in Geralt’s mission to find Ciri, but there’s one who’s still missing, and this makes a season 5 problem even bigger. The popularity of The Witcher books and video games led to a lot of anticipation around Netflix’s TV adaptation, and though its first season was a big success, The Witcher has now become one of the platform’s most divisive TV shows. The Witcher season 4 is about to face bigger challenges as it will be the first season with Liam Hemsworth as Geralt, but it also has other narrative challenges to overcome.

At the end of The Witcher season 3, following the Thanedd Coup and the many tragedies that resulted from it, Yennefer, Ciri, and Geralt were separated again. Yennefer was last seen forming the Lodge of Sorceresses, Ciri was rescued by the Rats after being lost in a desert, and Geralt recovered in Brokilon before setting out to find and rescue Ciri. Season 3 also saw the beginnings of Geralt’s new team, with a new character set to join, but there’s one more missing, and if they’re not introduced in season 4, they will make a season 5 problem a lot bigger.

Geralt’s New Team In The Witcher Season 4 Is Missing Angoulême

Angoulême Joins Geralt’s Group In The Book The Tower of the Swallow

The Witcher season 3 Henry Cavill as Geralt with Meng'er Zhang as Milva and Joey Batey as Jaskier

The Witcher season 3 was based on the novel Time of Contempt, so with that in mind, season 4 is expected to cover the book Baptism of Fire. In it, after recovering in Brokilon, Geralt sets out to find Ciri with the help of Jaskier and Milva, an expert archer from Brokilon. The group is shadowed by Cahir, who ends up joining them after Geralt saves his life, and they are later joined by Regis, a vampire with great medical skills. In the following book, the group is joined by Angoulême, and so the team is complete.

Jaskier has been a close friend of Geralt’s since The Witcher season 1, and though they had an argument that led to them parting ways, they are together once more. Jaskier has constantly proven his loyalty to Geralt, and the witcher needs him now more than ever. Milva was introduced in season 3 and Cahir is one of The Witcher’s main characters, who started as a major antagonist but has now questioned his alliances, even giving Ciri the chance to kill him in season 3.

Regis will be introduced in The Witcher season 4, and he will be played by Laurence Fishburne. The only character missing to complete Geralt’s team is Angoulême, but the character hasn’t been announced as part of season 4. Although it makes sense as Angoulême appears in the book that follows Baptism of Fire, The Witcher is ending with its fifth season, thus not leaving enough time for Angoulême’s proper introduction and role.

The Witcher will end with its fifth season, which already brings various issues as the show has one more book that won’t be covered in a sixth season (The Lady of the Lake). As this novel gives closure to Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer, The Witcher season 5 will have to find a way to cover two novels in order to bring proper closure to its main characters. Angoulême is an important member of Geralt’s team, being the illegitimate child of a Cintran noblewoman and who had a tough childhood that led her to join the Nightingale gang, a group known for their cruelty.

After joining Geralt and the rest, Angoulême was a key member in their search for Ciri and her rescue, especially during the attack on Stygga Castle, where they faced various enemies, including Leo Bonhart. Angoulême’s possible absence in season 4 means that The Witcher’s final season will either rush through her story or won’t give her the importance she deserves, or she will be left out completely, giving her role in Ciri’s rescue to someone else.

The Witcher

Based on the novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and the video games, The Witcher follows the story of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. “Ciri” Cirilla is the Princess of Cintra, who has magical abilities and whose fate has been linked to Geralt’s. Yennefer of Vengerberg, a sorceress who trains to become a mage before deserting her duties and going solo, is also a main character in the Netflix series. The show’s storylines are intertwined but told throughout different timelines, all of which eventually catch up to Ciri’s, whose timeline of events is the most recent. Set on the Continent where men, monsters, and elves exist together, the characters all have separate journeys, though their destinies bring them into each others’ orbits.
