Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles star Alanna Ubach teases what’s to come in the series for her character, Bishop. The upcoming Paramount+ animated show is set after the events of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and will follow the Turtles being separated and having to confront Bishop, who plans to eliminate all mutants living in New York City. Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr, Nicolas Cantu, Brady Noon, and Ayo Edebiri are all reprising their respective roles from the movie as Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael, and April O’Neill.

During a recent interview with Screen Rant for awards consideration for Ted, Ubach discussed how unique the show is and her character’s goal within it. Stating that the animation is lots of fun and the voice acting makes it a special watch, the actor also explained that she did not know how the character would look like until the first day of voice recordings where her picture was shown, to which the approach to voicing the character became much easier. This is lovely, and there’s something that’s really unique that they’ve added to this. The animation itself, it’s a lot of fun and a lot of young voiceover actors are in it. That’s what I think makes it really special. Well, what’s so fun is I had no idea what she looked like until the first day of recordings, they showed me her picture. I was like, “Ooh, this is going to be easy. Now I know what to do with her.” And it is just so much fun. The way she’s animated is so funny. And yeah, she reminds me of all of the teachers I feared growing up around. All of those teachers in parochial school. Pull out your books. Yeah, she’s spooky. Gosh, what people do in their spare time. She’s all about the Turtles.

Tales of TMNT Sounds Like The Perfect Vehicle To Expand The Mutant Mayhem Universe

The show will act as a companion piece to the movies.

While audiences have to wait until 2026 for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2, the upcoming Paramount+ show acts as the perfect vehicle to tell new stories within the same world and expand its universe without casual viewers having to feel obliged to see the show to understand the movies. Many franchises are dipping into television, such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Legendary’s Monsterverse, and, most recently, Sonic the Hedgehog with its Paramount+ limited series Knuckles, and Dune with the upcoming Dune: Prophecy.

Though in the same setting as its movie, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will not only follow up on its events, but stand on its own two feet as what looks to be a separate animated adventure that may impact the film, but won’t be required viewings for those who prefer to wait for the sequel. Using a different style of animation and structure that a feature film can’t provide, it will also likely bring back the glory days of the Turtles on television, whose 1987 animated show was a massive success at the time and helped find a brand-new fanbase for Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s iconic heroes in a half-shell.

With an episodic structure that will individually focus on each member of the Turtles on their own solo adventures, the series will be a perfect companion piece to the movie. It will further develop the Turtles’ respective arcs while tying in their stories with Bishop’s quest to eliminate all mutants. They will likely team up near the end of the series, but with a twelve-episode approach, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has more than enough time to meaningfully develop the franchise and characters without it feeling like a required step to watch for the upcoming sequel.
