Blade may have just lost another director, but details about one of the intended villains, Lilith, have been shared in the wake of Yann Demange’s departure. Blade was first announced in 2019 as part of the Phase Four slate of MCU movies. However, a global pandemic, multiple strikes in Hollywood, and several changes to the cast and crew have continuously pushed the movie back. In 2023, the movie was mere months from beginning principal photography, with a director, cast and fleshed out story in place.

Now, due to those same strikes, the film was pushed back to begin shooting in 2024, but with the most recent director attached leaving the project, Blade’s production has once again gone on standby. The minor silver lining with this delay is that some details for the story intended to shoot in 2023 have now been revealed (via THR). Essentially, the reveal makes it clear that Lilith, played by Mia Goth, was intended to be a pivotal antagonist for the movie.

MCU Blade Movie Reports Teased What Lilith’s Role In The Movie Previously Looked Like

According to the report in The Hollywood Reporter, Mia Goth’s Lilith was positioned to be the villain of the film. Lilith would then attempt to take blood from Blade’s daughter. In the comics, Eric Brooks, aka Blade, does have a daughter by the name of Brielle Brooks. The young quarter-vampire possesses unique powers and abilities thanks to her father’s status as a half-vampire, but how this would have been represented in the film isn’t entirely clear.

The version that was aiming to shoot last year was set in the 1920s, according to sources, and featured Mia Goth as a vampire villain named Lilith who wanted the blood of Blade’s daughter. (Goth remains attached to star in the project.) For another iteration, under Tariq, Marvel built a massive train set, but it was never used. (It may be passed on to a different Disney production.) The new take on Blade is said to be present day.

Considering Lilith’s interest in the girl, it is likely that her blood possessed some sort of special quality in the intended script for the movie. Potentially creating other vampires who did not have the usual weaknesses, or possibly as a way to control Eric Brooks himself. Regardless, this story is now discarded, although Mia Goth remains attached to the Blade project, which suggests Lilith may still play a part in the events of whatever updated script comes out on top. Whether Blade’s family will still be a part of the story is less clear.

Lilith’s Origin & Powers In Marvel Comics Explained

Lilith is an ancient and almost mythological character in the comic books. Drawing inspiration from real world religious stories, Lilith is regarded to be the first woman in creation, and the original wife of Adam. However, her children were demonic and monstrous, and so she was cast out. The comics take this concept in several directions, which has resulted in the character having multiple origin stories. In all of the origins for the character, she is ancient, and exists at the very beginning of humanity’s timeline.

Likewise, her powers vary depending on the story, but in one storyline connected to Thor and Hercules, Lilith is trapped for an extended period of time in Tiamut’s corpse. This could potentially connect the supernatural world of the MCU to stories like Eternals, where Tiamut was last seen. In this story, Lilith also possesses powers similar to the Eternals, with enhanced strength, endurance, and an immunity to disease and aging. She also possesses a great deal of skill and knowledge as a sorcerer. And, of course, she can produce demonic offspring known as Lilin.

Blade’s Movie Changes Mean Lilith’s Role Could Be Changed For The Final Movie

While the original plan for the character and the Blade movie would have placed them in the 1920s, the latest versions of the story are expected to take place in the present day. This means that Lilith’s role, her origin, and her powers could all be altered in order to fit in with the modern MCU. At present, the supernatural side of the MCU remains distinct and separate from the larger MCU, but a character like Lilith could be an excellent means to tie the stories together.

Whether using the Tiamut connection, or her connection to the Pantheon of gods like Thor, who has been a part of the MCU from the start, and Hercules, who appeared in a post-credits scene for Thor: Love & Thunder. It is also possible that Lilith will no longer appear in the upcoming Blade film, but with Mia Goth still being attached, that would result in her character being recast, which seems unlikely. Therefore, Lilith is likely to be joining the MCU in the near future, but how and why will likely not be revealed until the movies release.
