Avengers (2018) #21 – written by Jason Aaron, with art by Jason Masters – features Thor and Iron Man enjoying some much-needed respite, following many hard battles. In the midst of paying each other compliments, Thor begins to name the one mortal he’d want by his side.
Before the God of Thunder can finish, Iron Man cuts in to point out that, “You’d choose Steve. We’d all choose Steve.” This met with no resistance from Thor, and all Avengers know that Cap is the one you want in your corner for any fight, whether it takes tactics, skill, or just plain stubbornness.

As a whole, the Avengers have a wide range of powers on offer, from super strength to chaos magic and every type of armor and weapon possible. Theoretically, it should be hard to beat an Asgardian God, or Captain Marvel, or Iron for everyone’s top pick, but Captain America is the most well-rounded superheroes in the Marvel Universe. Not only is he incredibly inspiring – both for teammates and the public – but he’s incredibly adaptable on the battlefield. His tactical prowess is nearly unmatched, and his physical enhancements allow him to keep up with practically any enemy.
Thor or Hulk-level strength is, of course, a boon when battling villains like the Wrecking Crew; yet they can become liabilities in other cases, as when Thor tangled with the Corrupter. By contrast, Captain America’s skillset makes him a solid match for practically everyone, and through sheer force of will and determination, he stands toe-to-toe with beings who should easily outmatch him, like Thanos. No matter the fight, everyone can rest assured that Steve Rogers won’t give up until it is won, and he fosters undeniable loyalty and respect among every hero he fights alongside.

The character is often depicted wielding a nigh unbreakable and aerodynamic shield made of vibranium that they use to defend and attack their foes.
