A Secret About the Suicide Squad is Hiding in Amanda Waller’s Past

Absolute Power Origins 2 Manhanini Variant Cover: Amanda Waller walking forward with the Suicide Squad behind her.

Throughout the Dawn of DC, Amanda Waller has been waiting in the shadows, cooking up plans to take out the metahumans of the DC Universe. Her plans are finally going to come to fruition in Absolute Power, an event that will see her strip the Earth’s metahumans of their powers. As Waller carries out her work in the main event, Absolute Power: Origins breaks from the pack to tell a story set years before Amanda Waller was the terrifying force. The series has promised it would show Amanda Waller in a way fans have never seen her before.

It’s hard to imagine what kind of secret could change the way fans look at Amanda Waller or the Suicide Squad. Task Force X is one of the most heinous teams in the world and is responsible for several hundred deaths. Not to mention Waller’s ledger is full of blood and she’s about to imprison heroes on a scale that’s never been seen before. It’s unlikely that there’s something from her past that could actually shock DC readers at this point. However, this could be the chance to give Waller some much-needed characterization during Absolute Power.

Waller’s Untold Story Could Change How Fans See Her

Absolute Power Origins 3 Lashley Variant Cover: the classic Suicide Squad poses in front of Waller's profile.

There’s no argument that Waller is going off the deep end in Absolute Power. But maybe there’s something in her past that explains why she’s on this kind of mission or perhaps something in her early days with the Suicide Squad gave her the idea to rid the Earth of metahumans. Whatever secret Amanda Waller is hiding in her past, it’s something that needs to come out. Maybe it will change the way fans see the Suicide Squad or Waller, but this revelation could be what Absolute Power is all about.

Absolute Power: Origins #3 is available from DC Comics on August 28th.
