Marvel Comics has announced the end of the current era of Star Wars comics with Darth Vader’s final endgame against Palpatine ahead of Return of the Jedi. Finale issues are coming for both Darth Vader and Marvel’s flagship Star Wars series before a new era is set to begin. However, Vader’s final reckoning with his master has to play out before that happens in the galaxy far, far away.

As confirmed in an announcement from Marvel Comics, the longest-running Darth Vader series is ending with Darth Vader #50 by Greg Pak and Raffaele Ienco. The oversized issue will also be joined by Charles Soule’s Star Wars #50 which will help conclude this era between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi that’s canonically been told over the last 5 years. It’s also being teased that Vader will unleash the full weight of his new power to bear against his dark master, “the only person in the galaxy he hates more than he hates himself.” Cover art and the issue’s plot synopsis can be viewed below:
