The cast of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters share their hopes for the forthcoming season of the Apple TV+ series. Created by Matt Fraction and Chris Black, this monster television series is part of the ongoing Monsterverse franchise. The show follows half-siblings Cate and Kentaro Randa, who attempt to investigate the truth behind their family legacy. After a successful season 1 which garnered positive reviews from critics and viewers, AppleTV+ renewed the show for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2.

Speaking with Screen Rant in an exclusive interview, Kiersey Clemons, Anna Sawai, Joe Tippet, and creator Chris Black discussed the upcoming season. Sawai hopes her character Cate has more agency in season 2, after finding out the answer about her family. Tippet, who plays Tim, an overzealous Monarch officer, shares that he’s happy to be back in the new season. Black also teases being excited to continue the story after the reveal of Kong in the finale. Read their full comments below:

Clemons: I just want to play. I would love to be in disguises or something. That’s what I think of before I go to bed. I’m not even kidding. I talk to our people, and I’m like, “What if she was a spy of sorts?”

Sawai: I hope that Cate has a little bit more agency because in season 1, she’s so lost. She’s running away from everything. She’s asking questions, but not really getting answers. I think that now that she knows about the underworld and what her family legacy is, I hope that she’s taking a little bit more action.

Tippett: I’m just glad that they’re having me back. I’m happy to get to work with these guys more. I can’t wait for it.

Black: I think our friends from Apple are here, so I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say. But it’s going to be big. It’s going to be great. We’re really excited and just so thrilled to have the opportunity to come back and keep telling this story. What To Expect From Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2

Kong Will Likely Be Heavily Featured

It didn’t come as much of a surprise when AppleTV+ announced back in April that Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters had been renewed for season 2. The show was a hit for the streamer and was well-reviewed, receiving an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. This, coupled with the inconclusive Monarch season 1 ending and the positive reviews that the entire season received, there was always a lot of hope that season 2 would return sooner rather than later.

With season 2 confirmed, it is expected that most of the main characters from season 1 will return for this new season. This includes Cate Randa (Anna Sawai), May (Kiersey Clemons), Kentaro (Ren Watabe), Keiko (Mari Yamamoto), Bill Randa (Anders Holm), Tim (Joe Tippett), Duvall (Elisa Lasowski) and possibly Kurt Russell’s Wyatt as his fate after his sacrifice is unknown. The show may be able to bring back more characters if season 2 continues the story being told in different time periods.

As regards the storyline for season 2, nothing concrete has been confirmed as of the time of writing. However, there are speculations that Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters could redirect its focus on Monsterverse’s other titanic figure, Kong. The ending of season 1 placed some of the show’s main characters on Skull Island with the giant ape making a brief cameo, so there’s strong reason to believe he could be crucial to season 2. While there’s no official release date for season 2, the new season, whenever it does arrive, should be worth the wait.
