Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes‘ digital release date has now been revealed. Directed by Wes Ball, the latest installment in the Planet of the Apes franchise follows a young ape named Noa (Owen Teague) as he goes on an adventure with a mysterious human woman named Mae (Freya Allan). The Kingdom of the Apes reviews were generally positive from critics, and the film has been a win with audiences, too.

A new post on X, formerly Twitter, from 20th Century Studios now reveals that Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes‘ digital release date is set for July 9, 2024.

The film will subsequently become available on 4K UHD and Blu-ray on August 27. There’s no word yet on when the latest Planet of the Apes movie will come to streaming.

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Theatrical Performance Explained

Wes Ball’s Soft Reboot Paints A Promising Picture For The Franchise

2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which starred Andy Serkis as Caesar, rejuvenated the franchise after Tim Burton’s disastrous 2001 franchise entry. 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes, both of which were directed by Matt Reeves, were even more successful both critically and commercially. With Reeves not returning as director and Serkis not reprising his role as Caesar, it was unclear if Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes could recapture this same magic.

As seen in the chart above, the latest installment hasn’t been quite as well-received as its predecessors, but the response has been generally positive. Made on an estimated budget of $160 million, the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes box office has also been mostly a win, with the film having made $376.5 million worldwide. Over the last few weeks, the movie has also exhibited strong legs with shockingly low week-to-week drops. This success, though modest, bodes well for the future of the franchise.

Nothing has been announced just yet, but it’s very likely that a sequel will end up getting the green light in the months ahead. The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ending certainly leaves things on an interesting note and sets up a much bigger story with Noa and Mae. Considering Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes‘ successful theatrical run, the movie is now also poised to be a hit on home viewing platforms later this month.
