A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight has begun to announce their cast of characters, but I am still waiting for one character to be recast in this next Game of Thrones show. Production has announced several characters, including the show’s two lead stars, Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan The Tall (Dunk) and Dexter Sol Ansell as Aegon Targaryen (Egg). Other notable characters that the show has announced include Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen (Aeron Brightflame), Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen (Baelor Breakspear), Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen.

All the characters have an important connection to Dunk, Egg, or both. Maekar is Egg’s father and fourth in line to the Iron Throne, while Lyonel Baratheon is one of Dunk’s allies. Tanselle is a puppeteer from Dorne, attacked by Aerion for supposedly committing treason. Baelor is the current Prince of Dragonstone since he is the oldest son of the current king, Daeron II. And Aerion is Maekar’s second-oldest son, and Egg’s devious older brother. However, there are still several cast members that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has yet to announce, including a character from Game of Thrones.

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Still Hasn’t Revealed Its Recasting For Young Maester Aemon

Young Maester Aemon Will Be Aemon Targaryen, Third Son Of Maekar

Maester Aemon in Game of Thrones

Maester Aemon is the official Game of Thrones maester for the Night’s Watch, but A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms will introduce him as Maekar’s third son and one of Egg’s older brothers. Aemon and Egg are close as children, spending much time together before Egg squires for Dunk. Aemon even gives Egg his nickname. Audiences know his character as an old maester, but not much about his childhood. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will portray Aemon as a child for the first time, and seeing how this show approaches his character will be fascinating. It’s why the wait for a casting announcement is so exciting.

How Old Maester Aemon Will Be In A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Show

Maester Aemon In Game Of Thrones Is 89 Years Older Than He Is In The Hedge Knight

Maester Aemon in Game of Thrones

In Game of Thrones, Aemon says he is 100 years old, placing his birth in 202 AC. George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg begins in 209 AC, approximately 90 years before Game of Thrones. However, the Game of Thrones timeline differs from A Song of Ice and Fire by skipping over a generation between Aegon V and Aerys II. Game of Thrones also aged up many characters, making determining Aemon’s exact age difficult. His birth year in the books is different; he was born in 198 AC. Therefore, an educated estimation puts him between 10 and 15 years old in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

It will be exciting when A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms announces Aemon’s casting. However, the show has yet to announce the casting for Maekar’s oldest son, Daeron Targaryen, also known as Daeron the Drunken. If they choose to cap off Maekar’s sons at three, Aerion will be his eldest and first heir. Aerion has a terrible reputation for cruelty, and this change would shift the dynamics between Maekar’s sons. If A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight chooses this path, it will raise the stakes and possibly strain this generation of Targaryens.
