Writer/artist Daniel Warren Johnson has a new comic coming in September from Image Comics, and the legendary creator will be bringing fellow artist Riley Rossmo along with him for the all-new creator-owned series The Moon Is Following Us. Johnson has been busy with Skybound’s incredibly successful Transformers relaunch over the last year, so it’s exciting to see the Eisner Award-winning creator launch an all-new property.
The Moon Is Following Us #1 sounds like the type of deeply-personal pulp entertainment that Daniel Warren Johnson has become famous for, as it follows two parents attempting to rescue their daughter after she is kidnapped by an evil force known as the Cascade.

Sam and Duncan LaMarr love their six-year-old daughter, Penny, more than anything in the whole world. But half a year ago, she was taken by the Cascade, an evil force they barely understand. Now, Sam and Duncan must fight side by side with the magical beings Penny cherished to try and get her back…before she’s gone forever. |
The story of two parents journeying into the unknown to rescue their daughter sounds ripe with potential for creators like Johnson and Rossmo. The added wrinkle of both parents getting help from their daughter’s “magical” friends also sounds intriguing, and a way for the new series to stand out from other sci-fi/fantasy comics out there.

Daniel Warren Johnson Creates A Fascinating Family Dynamic In “The Moon Is Following Us“
Previews Reveal An Engaging Premise
The preview for The Moon Is Following Us exhibits its creators’ strengths, featuring Sam and Duncan getting into a believable argument over how to break into an enemy castle. Writer Daniel Warren Johnson has made a name for himself in crafting comics that combine genre thrills with deeply-emotional themes. In projects such as Murder Falcon, Do A Powerbomb! and Skybound Entertainment’s Transformers, Johnson has maintained a balance between the pulp and the personal that is almost Spielberg-ian. The Moon Is Following Us looks to continue that trend, offering intimate family portrait between laser blasts and swings of a battle-axe.
Riley Rossmo’s bouncy, cartoony style also looks like an excellent fit for the action-packed Image Comics story being told. The incredibly versatile artist first made a name for himself on projects like Cowboy Ninja Viking and Green Wake, and has since gone on to be one of DC Comics’ top artists, working on characters such as Batman, Constantine and the recent Sandman series. Rossmo has proven himself to be adept at handling a wide variety of stories and genres throughout his career, so it is exciting for him to collaborate with Daniel Warren Johnson on The Moon Is Following Us.
