A new set photo from The Witcher season 4 has offered a first look at Laurence Fishburne’s vampire character as production on the fantasy series continues. It was announced back in January 2024 that Fishburne would be joining The Witcher season 4 as Regis, a powerful vampire who crosses paths with Geralt on his journey. However, not much has been revealed about how he’ll play into the larger story of the upcoming episodes, save for being an important figure when he shows up.

Now, UnBoxPHD has released a video that includes a set photo of Fishburne’s Regis, showing what he’ll look like in The Witcher TV show. The photo sees the actor wearing a black and gray wig, sporting formal green and blue clothing alongside red boots. Another video from UnBoxPHD shows him walking around on set in what appears to be a white shirt, followed by multiple other actors in costume.

What Could Regis’ Role Be In The Witcher Season 4?

The Witcher season 3 ended with Geralt seemingly heading on a quest to find Ciri, something that will no doubt see him encounter plenty of new allies and dangers along the way. First introduced in the fifth book of the series, Baptism of Fire, Regis is shown to be an intelligent character who abstains from drinking blood despite being a vampire. His role becomes more important as the series progresses, when he leaves his position as the barber-surgeon of Dillingen to join the main hero on his journey.

During the book series, Regis becomes one of Geralt’s trusted allies, joining him on his adventure and helping to keep him safe throughout. Since season 4 is setting the stage for him to be looking for Ciri, it’s possible the vampire will play a similar role, assisting the core hero during his time of need. Since season 4’s description hints at the main character finding multiple people to join him on his newest quest, he’ll likely be one of those important characters to come with him on his travels.

While it’s unclear just how much Fishburne’s character will do in season 4, his joining The Witcher‘s cast is a sign that there will be plenty of talent behind the next batch of episodes. Though it’s unclear what the reception to the series will be following Liam Hemsworth taking the role of Geralt after Henry Cavill’s exit, Regis’ presence might be enough to help bolster the next chapter of the story. With plenty more likely to be revealed about the character before season 4 arrives, this first look offers a glimpse at how the vampire will be portrayed.

Based on the novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and the video games, The Witcher follows the story of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. “Ciri” Cirilla is the Princess of Cintra, who has magical abilities and whose fate has been linked to Geralt’s. Yennefer of Vengerberg, a sorceress who trains to become a mage before deserting her duties and going solo, is also a main character in the Netflix series. The show’s storylines are intertwined but told throughout different timelines, all of which eventually catch up to Ciri’s, whose timeline of events is the most recent. Set on the Continent where men, monsters, and elves exist together, the characters all have separate journeys, though their destinies bring them into each others’ orbits.
