Lt. Hemmer (Bruce Horak) on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds owes a debt to Star Trek: Enterprise writer Andre Bormanis, who invented the Aenar. Bormanis was a science consultant and writer for the Rick Berman-era Star Trek series, and he worked on Star Trek: Enterprise as a writer and producer. Bormanis is credited with writing 12 episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise, including “Silent Enemy”, “Horizon”, “The Crossing”, “Babel One”, “Terra Prime”, and, of course, “The Aenar”, which introduced the blind subject of the Andorian race.
Andre Bormanis appeared as a guest on The D-Con Chamber, the new podcast hosted by Star Trek: Enterprise‘s Connor Trinneer and Dominic Keating. As part of their far-ranging interview about Bormanis’ writing career, Andre, Dominic, and Connor reminisced about working together on Enterprise, and Bormanis reminded the hosts that he invented the Aenar, which led to the creation of Lt. Andre Bormanis: I invented the Aenar. Do you remember the race, the Aenar, the albino Andorians? I came up with that! They had one of those on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. One of the main characters in the first season was an Aenar.
Connor Trinneer: That’s gotta feel like a trophy.
Andre Bormanis: It was. They don’t have alien character royalties, unfortunately. If you invent a character, yes. But a species, no.
