Marvel and Disney have combined their efforts for a first of its kind comic, starring Ducktales favorite Scrooge McDuck – and in the process, revealed the richest character in pop culture. When a mysterious figure steals his money bin through use of a magical portal, Scrooge realizes he has to take drastic measures to defeat the multiverse’s richest person: an alternate reality version of himself.

Uncle $crooge and the Infinity Dime pays homage to both Marvel’s Infinity War and the Disney character’s famous lucky dime – an item Scrooge holds responsible for setting him on the path of becoming a billionaire. In a preview for the comic, Scrooge goes head-to-head with low-level thugs the Beagle Boys before seeing the real threat behind them: a duck whose fighting style bears a strong resemblance to his own, who wears rings of literal money.

In order to fight back, he’ll have to get his own portal and unite a multiversal army of Scrooge McDucks to take down the Scrooge-Above-All.

A kaleidoscopic view of multiple versions of Disney's Scrooge McDuck.

For any readers who think of Scrooge as the elderly miser from Mickey’s Christmas Carol, these preview pages bring them up to speed. In the comics, Scrooge scraps with opponents around the world just as much as he worries about finding priceless artifacts, and increasing his wealth. Here, he jumps out of a plane in midair to attack the Beagle Boys, armed only with his wits and his cane. However, these are not enough to take on the unexpected villain, who’s prepared for Scrooge, and possibly has more power and experience.

Disney has had previous crossovers with Marvel – including special covers featuring classic Disney characters reimagined as Avengers – but this comic is first-of-its-kind. By using Marvel’s multiverse trope with a classic Disney character in an actual story, more than a one-off gag, Uncle $crooge and the Infinity Dime breaks new ground. By having Scrooge travel dimensions to find alternate versions of himself, the comic is not only setting up potential future events, but endless spin-offs of other-world Scrooges. The idea could also be used with other Disney characters who have had comic success, like Scrooge’s nephew Donald.

More Crossovers Are Coming

Uncle $crooge and the Infinity Dime will also feature an important throwback for Scrooge McDuck comics history: a reprinting of his first-ever comic book story, penned by classic Disney comic writer Carl Barks, “Christmas on Bear Mountain.” This reprint, paired with Scrooge’s latest adventure, provides an all-encompassing view of not only where Scrooge is going, but how he got his start in the first place. Bundled with an exciting new Marvel Universe adventure, this issue is a must-have for any long-time Disney fans.

Uncle $crooge has officially unlocked the Marvel Multiverse and its limitless potential for Disney’s roster of famous, beloved characters. Beyond Uncle $crooge and the Infinity Dime, several more installments in the Disney & Marvel collaboration series have been announced. In several “What If…?” stories, Donald Duck is set to acquire the powers of classic Marvel characters such as Wolverine, and the Avengers’ resident deity Thor. Where Marvel and Disney go with their crossovers from their remains to be determined, leaving fans to speculate in anticipation until future announcements arrive.
