Stephen King‘s review for a new Netflix horror movie reveals why it is a streaming hit despite having a Rotten Tomatoes score of 64%. Since Stephen King has written over 60 novels in his writing career and is still consistently expanding his horror empire, he is obviously best known for his long line of work as an author and contributions to the horror genre. However, in recent years, the author has also gained some credibility as a movie critic, thanks to his viral social media reviews of popular movies and shows.

After a relatively obscure horror movie suddenly became a streaming hit, Stephen King, too, gave it a shot and took to Twitter to publicly share his opinions on it. Although Stephen King’s reaction to the Netflix film barely has two sentences, it perfectly captures why it is gaining so much traction. It also highlights the real reason the film deserves a sequel.

Stephen King Is Right About Why Under Paris Beats Other Recent Shark Horror Movies

Under Paris’ Sense Of Realism Makes It More Terrifying Than Most Recent Shark Horror Films

As The King of Horror’s Twitter review suggests, he was initially under the impression that Under Paris would be another “jokey movie” like Sharknado. Therefore, he did not expect it to deliver any genuine chills and thrills. However, when he finally watched it, he found it to be “quite good,” especially during its “last 25 minutes.” King’s review perfectly highlights why Under Paris beats many recent killer shark horror movies. In terms of overall quality, Netflix’s Under Paris may not rank as high as Steven Spielberg’s Jaws.

However, what makes it stand out among the sludge of shark horror films that have come out in recent years is that it has some semblance of realism. Although Under Paris also portrays over-the-top action scenes and adopts pseudoscientific ideas, it never seems as ridiculous as films like Open Water, The Meg, and Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus. It walks through some hilariously preposterous scenarios but balances them with realism by drawing on real scientific concepts like parthenogenesis and real-world ecological concerns.

Stephen King’s Stamp Of Approval Is Another Reason Under Paris 2 Must Happen

Stephen King’s opinions about movies and shows may not always align with those of most viewers and critics. However, since he is The King of Horror, his reviews for horror films are often insightful and reflective of his deep understanding of the genre’s storytelling. Under Paris, too, may not have landed in every critic’s good book, but King’s positive review suggests it has the potential to expand its lore in a positive direction with a sequel.

Given how Under Paris‘ ending perfectly paves the way for a potential sequel, Netflix would be missing a major franchise opportunity if it does not release Under Paris 2. The film also has a terrifying end credits sequence that allows it to expand its vision and raise the stakes for its central characters in a sequel movie. Since Under Paris is also seemingly driving good numbers on Netflix, Stephen King‘s stamp of approval should encourage the streaming giant to seriously consider greenlighting Under Paris 2.
