Jujutsu Kaisen has had an extremely chaotic and exciting final battle befitting this action masterpiece, but some fans have complained about the all-out fight that sees Sukuna taking on scores of sorcerers without interruption. While shonen manga usually prefer a one-on-one clash to end their run, the nature of the final battle in Jujutsu Kaisen was also teased at the beginning of the series, all the way in 2018.

At the beginning of the series, it is revealed that Ryomen Sukuna was sealed away 1000 years ago and his 20 fingers split apart and separated. This was no easy feat given how powerful the King of Curses is, and it took the efforts of multiple sorcerers to take him down, with many losing their lives.

This is exactly what is happening in Shinjuku, with the strongest of sorcerers such as Gojo, Kashimo, Itadori, Yuta, Maki, Todo, and many others ganging up on the awakened Sukuna, and many are already dead or incapacitated. With the fight coming to an end soon, the series has come full circle and is looking to send off the main villain the same way he lost a millennium ago.

Jujutsu Kaisen Is All About Team Effort

Jujutsu Kaisen Sukuna's Domain Malevolent Shrine

Although it wasn’t revealed exactly which sorcerers managed to subdue Sukuna back in the Heian Era, there is no doubt that they were as strong as the current ones taking him on. Recently, Jujutsu Kaisen has been criticized for its repetitiveness because too many characters are appearing and subsequently being killed off, but an all-out melee is most likely the only way to take down Sukuna. The more characters that chip at his strength, the better their chances of defeating him once and for all.

Although many characters were able to land a lot of damage on Sukuna, it seems he is only getting stronger and more cunning, utilizing the series’ incredible power system to his full advantage. From using a new and destructive cursed technique called Divine Flame to coming up with new ways to use Binding Vows, it will take a lot from the heroes to kill Sukuna.

Group Final Battles Are Not Very Common in Anime

An Overwhelming Villain Against Many Heroes

Jujutsu Kaisen catching criticism for its conclusive fight is not entirely justified because this is part of its originality. With some exceptions such as Naruto, not many famous series have gone this way. In Bleach, Ichigo took down both Aizen and Yhwach alone, even if these villains previously fought other heroes. Kaido was defeated by Luffy, even if the Nine Red Scabbards all attacked him together previously.

Another recent exception is My Hero Academia, where Deku took down Shigaraki thanks to the combined effort of the previous successors of One for All and to the help of his friends, with the manga going to great lengths to underscore the message that “no one can do it on their own”. The difference is that, unlike My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen does have a higher mortality rate in this final battle which makes readers understand the level of threat the heroes are facing.
