Inside Out 2 has already earned its place in the record book just days after its release. The follow-up to 2015’s Inside Out, the sequel continues Riley’s story, as she develops new emotions after reaching puberty. With Anxiety, Ennui, and Envy joining the cast, among other new emotions, the existing characters are forced to reckon with the reality of leaving middle school behind. With a budget of $175 million, it needed a massive opening weekend to help ensure eventual profitability and success.
That success is already in its grasp. According to a report by Deadline, Inside Out 2 just secured the biggest international opening weekend of any animated movie. With an incredible take of $295 million, it had a larger opening than The Super Mario Bros Movie‘s, which previously held the record. It earned $140 million from international markets and a $155 million take from domestic markets.

Inside Out 2 is the sequel to the 2015 original film, which starred a young girl named Riley with a head full of emotions. – literally. With Amy Pohler as Joy, Bill Hader as fear, Mindy Kaling as Disgust, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Lewis Black as Anger, the all-star cast brought to life the emotions that adolescents face as they grow, change, and adapt to new situations. This sequel, currently in development, will bring Amy Pohler back as Joy, with Riley, now a teenager.
