As Father’s Day comes around this year, I can’t stop thinking about how grateful I am that the ending of Star Wars: The Bad Batch has provided such a beautiful glimpse at a warm and loving father-daughter relationship. Ever since the two first met in The Bad Batch premiere three years ago, I have been deeply endeared to Hunter and Omega. The pair have always exchanged such a genuine faith in one another, as well as a breathtaking amount of sincere care – and a strong desire to protect one another.

This is a unique kind of father-daughter relationship in Star Wars, and as someone who was introduced to the franchise by my own dad and continues to enjoy it with him to this day, it means everything that I’ve gotten to experience it in The Bad Batch. While other father-daughter pairs in Star Wars have also been meaningful, such as Galen and Jyn Erso and Bail and Leia Organa, they have never been a focus in the way Hunter and Omega have throughout The Bad Batch‘s three seasons. Its ending serves even more as the perfect culmination of their relationship.

The Bad Batch Ending Shines A Light On Hunter & Omega’s Relationship

Their Faith In Each Other Is Unwavering

Though Hunter and Omega’s father-daughter relationship is a key part of The Bad Batch from the beginning, it gets a true spotlight in the series’ ending and epilogue. We get to see them finally achieving a life of peace together, with both Hunter and Omega full of such relief that they can simply sit and enjoy each other’s company. This moment of bliss for them, where Omega can even rest her head against him, culminates even more in the epilogue, which flashes forward and shows just how much growing they’ve done.

There is nothing more difficult for a parent to do than to let go of their children, which is exactly what Hunter has to do for Omega in The Bad Batch epilogue – and despite his openness about his struggle to do so, he still accomplishes it. This is such a beautiful testament to the relationship Hunter and Omega have as a father and a daughter. Though Hunter desires to protect her at all costs, he also knows she’s more than capable of going off on her own, just as Omega always had faith in him to do the same.

Hunter (Clone Force 99)

Leader of Clone Force 99, Hunter is a mutant clone created with enhanced senses – gifts he uses to help him strategize in combat operations. Hunter led his squad on countless successful missions during the Clone Wars, and they deserted shortly after Order 66. Hunter has become a father-figure to fellow mutant clone Omega, who he loves dearly and is sworn to protect.

Watching This Star Wars Ending With My Own Dad Was So Special

Hunter & Omega’s Last Conversation Is So Realistic

In retrospect, what’s most special about this epilogue for me is the fact that I got to experience it for the first time with my own dad. It’s not often we get to experience new Star Wars content together now that, like Omega in this epilogue, I’ve grown up. This, however, is one we did get to sit down and watch together the morning it came out, and I cannot begin to explain how special it was to experience this Hunter and Omega moment with him – especially because of how real it is.

From leaving for college to moving away, Hunter and Omega’s conversation about her leaving is very realistic, and it’s certainly one I’ve experienced in my own life. To see it represented in Star Wars in this way means more than I can really put into words. Actor Dee Bradley Baker has talked about how, as a father to daughters himself, it was easy for him to tap into this kind of emotion, and I can totally understand it. I know I was feeling everything that Omega did, and I’m certain it was the same for my dad as we watched.

Omega

A mysterious mutant clone created by the Kaminoans, Omega longed to get away from Kamino and explore the galaxy. She was rescued from the Empire by Clone Force 99, and soon became the heart of the team. The Empire still view Omega as valuable, though, and all signs indicate her story could well end in tragedy.

The Bad Batch Will Always Be Important For Father-Daughter Duos

This Relationship Is A Prime Example Of Pure Faith, Trust, & Love

This is why The Bad Batch is so important to me as a daughter. While Hunter and Omega are at the heart of it, the other members of Clone Force 99 also get to have their own paternal relationships with Omega. Though there is a natural and responsible amount of protectiveness they have for her, never once do they waver in their faith in her. They train her because they believe in her strength, and like Wrecker says to Hunter in The Bad Batch season 3, they trust anyone she’s able to build a firm trust in as well.

The epilogue has just cemented how important this father-daughter dynamic is for all father-daughter duos in the audience. There’s no desire to hold her back, as Hunter instead acts on his faith in her yet again to follow her heart and do what must be done. Even better is his promise that they’ll be there for her whenever she needs them, proving their full devotion to her. As someone whose dad also has such faith in me, it’s extremely meaningful to me that The Bad Batch has forever cemented such a moment in Star Wars history.
