Under Paris does not explicitly reveal how many human characters die from the shark attacks throughout its runtime, but gives a fair idea about what the overall kill count could be. Directed and co-written by Xavier Gens, Netflix’s Under Paris recently became a sleeper hit on the streaming platform and is surprisingly also being compared with Steven Spielberg’s Jaws for its terrifying portrayal of sharks. Given how Under Paris‘ Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score is 62%, it clearly does not rank as high as Jaws in terms of quality and cultural impact.

The Kill Count Could Be Even Higher

In Under Paris‘ opening arc, four divers go underwater to look for Lillith and are surprised by how much she has grown in just two months. Moments later, all four of them are seemingly killed by the shark before Sohia dives in to rescue them. Later in the Netflix movie, an activist, Mika, and some locals decide to go to Paris’ catacombs, hoping to guide Lillith back to the ocean using SONAR. However, to everyone’s shock, Lillith shows up with a baby shark and attacks Mika. Following Mika’s death, chaos ensues in the catacombs, and several others fall into the water.

This not only gives Lillith a few easy targets but also leads to a stampede that causes at least 10 more casualties. With what follows in Under Paris, Adil and Sophia assemble a team of six to venture underwater and destroy Lillith’s next using explosives. Unfortunately, four police officers from their team do not make it out alive. In Under Paris‘ final arc, Lillth heads towards the Seine River’s swimming event where it seemingly kills close to 20 individuals.

When people from the military try to shoot down Lillith, they trigger the underwater World War II shells, causing massive underwater explosions. As a result, almost the entire city is flooded, giving Lillith and her shark army more room to move around. Although the movie does not explicitly reveal how many people die after the flooding, it would be fair to assume that the event takes at least 50 more lives, surging the overall kill count beyond 100.

How Under Paris’ Kill Count Compares To Other Shark Horror Movies

Jaws Is The Only Shark Movie That Keeps The Kill Count Relatively Realistic

The kill count across all four Jaws movies is only 18, which is significantly less than Under Paris‘. In The Meg franchise, a little over 100 humans seemingly die across two movies, making its overall kill count similar to Under Paris‘. The Deep Blue Sea movies, in comparison, start slowly by portraying the deaths of a total of 40 humans in the first two films but significantly increase the number to around 700 in the third. It must be noted, however, that Under Paris also has an end credits scene, which hints that the sharks move to other parts of the world after destroying Paris to kill thousands (if not more) of humans.
