Warning! Spoilers ahead for Green Lantern: War Journal #9!If it were ever in question just how powerful Green Lantern is now, his new army spells it out. For months now, John Stewart has had godlike power at his disposal and it seems like there’s no limit in sight for what the ring-slinger can do.

But now, Green Lantern is on the far side of the universe and close to a rip in space-time that leads to a world of unimaginable horrors. John’s also not alone, as numerous others are trapped near the Dark Star of the Fenn with him. But when evil forces attack, Green Lantern reveals how limitless his power is by empowering a squad to fight alongside him.

Green Lantern Has Enough Power to Create His Own ‘Corps’

In Green Lantern: War Journal #9 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Montos, Adriano Lucas, and Dave Sharpe, Green Lantern is still trapped near the Dark Star of the Fenn. He bands together with the rest of the survivors. John has driven Olgrun’s forces back through the other side of the Dark Star, but they’re soon to return. Green Lantern uses his powers to get his band of survivors to another section of the ruins, but unfortunately, one survivor is mutating, forcing Stewart to leave him behind.

Green Lantern and his band of survivors make it to a new hiding place among the ruins surrounding the Dark Star of the Fenn. To aid his new crew, Green Lantern has supplied his fellow survivors with armor and weapons made of hard light. The squad keeps an eye on Olgrun’s forces, who are determined to hunt Stewart down and drag him through the Dark Star. When it all looks clear, Green Lantern has his team advance. Unfortunately, the Olgrun-worshiping mutants known as the Fenn find Stewart’s team and attack, alerting the Radiant Dead to Green Lantern’s location.

Green Lantern dons a new set of construct armor and tells his team to find cover. As Olgrun’s forces swoop down to attack, Green Lantern’s team uses their construct weapons to shoot back. John’s team fights back valiantly, but the Radiant Dead aren’t letting up their attack. To save his team, Green Lantern heads to the Dark Star of the Fenn and heads straight through it to confront the Radiant Dead’s leader, the Revenant Queen.

How Green Lantern Became So Powerful and Why He’s in Grave Danger

John Stewart has had his brushes with great power before, but his latest upgrade brought him to god-level strength. Shortly after the Green Lantern Corps Central Power Battery was destroyed, John absorbed a powerful cosmic phenomenon known as the Godstorm. This mysterious wonder was directly connected to the most powerful energy in the DC Universe, the Source. By absorbing the Godstorm, Green Lantern became a living pool of energy and helped bring Green Lantern Corps back from its sudden and unexpected destruction.

Despite John’s dedication to the Green Lantern Corps, he retired from his beloved organization after it was taken over by the United Planets in the wake of the Guardians of the Universe’s disappearance. John returned to Earth to take care of his ailing mother and was happy to get back to a normal life. However, it wasn’t long into John’s retirement that the Green Lantern found himself hunted by the Radiant Dead, an army composed of undead soldiers fused with a sinister light.

Green Lantern eventually discovered that he was being targeted for the immense power he possessed. The deceased Old God Olgrun needs a vessel and has sent his army to claim John Stewart so that Olgrun may live once more. John and his allies have fought back, but unfortunately, the Revenant Queen used her power to bring John deep into space near the Dark Star of the Fenn, where Olgrun lies waiting to claim Green Lantern’s power so that Olgrun can return to conquer the DC Universe.

Green Lantern is Powerful Enough to Build an Army

John Stewart with Green Lantern Power Ring in DC Comics

There’s no doubt that John Stewart is the most powerful Green Lantern there is right now (possibly the most powerful that’s ever been). But since John absorbed the Godstorm, it has been hard to determine just how powerful he is. Green Lantern: War Journal has seen John pull off some impressive feats and constructs before. He’s even made a sentient construct of his dead sister to look after John’s mother while he’s off-planet. But creating a ‘corps’ to help Green Lantern fight the Radiant Dead is a different ballgame.

It’s not that other Green Lanterns can’t create weapons to give their allies, but that kind of thing drains a Green Lantern ring’s power supply when used too much. But for John, there’s virtually no limit on what he can create. There are nearly 50 survivors fighting alongside Green Lantern, but he makes armor and weapons for every single one of them (not to mention some kickass gear for himself). With the prospect of John facing an Old God soon, it’s a good thing he can create his own Green Lantern Corps.

Though he hasn’t been seen in full just yet, Olgrun is one of the most powerful threats John is facing. The Old God is dead by all accounts, yet he’s still controlling the Radiant Dead and using them to hunt down a being as powerful as John. John doesn’t have the luxury of being able to call his friends in the Green Lantern Corps right now. But he does have the power to arm his allies and create a Corps that could wind up defeating Olgrun for good.

Can Green Lantern’s Allies Defeat Olgrun?

Green Lantern has more power than ever, and that’ll be useful for taking the fight directly to Olgrun. Could John do it by himself? His overwhelming power suggests he could. But it’d serve him well to have allies by his side who can take on the Radiant Dead while Green Lantern focuses all his attention on Olgrun. There’s nothing to suggest John doesn’t have more power to give his soldiers even better weapons or armor as the fight with Olgrun grows closer. With Green Lantern’s godlike power and his new corps. Olgrun’s days might just be numbered.

Green Lantern

Green Lantern is the name given to several characters in the D.C. Comics canon, centering on individuals who dispense intergalactic justice.
