A new Looney Tunes movie is in the works, and it is exactly what I need after the heartbreaking cancellation of Coyote vs. Acme. As a huge fan of the Looney Tunes franchise, Coyote vs. Acme was one of my most looked-forward-to films, with the images, news of positive reception, and story making me incredibly excited for the film. However, Coyote vs. Acme will no longer be released, with the news being heartbreaking to me. Despite this, another Looney Tunes movie is gearing up to release, and it is filling the Looney Tunes-shaped hole in my heart.

Coyote vs. Acme was an officially announced movie that centered on the character of Wile E. Coyote, who has always been one of my favorite members of the Looney Tunes cast. The film would have followed Wile E. Coyote as he finally sued Acme for their defective products, with the company’s failed weapons being a running joke in the Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote cartoons. The film would have been a hybrid of live-action and animation, and while test screenings led to the film getting incredibly positive reviews, it was sadly shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery for tax reasons.

The Day The Earth Blew Up Will Bring The Looney Tunes Back To Theaters

It Is Looney Tunes First Fully Animated Theatrically-Released Film

While the shelving of Coyote vs. Acme is still incredibly sad and unfair to the artists behind the film, another Looney Tunes movie is set to bring the beloved characters back to theaters. The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is a fully animated feature-length Looney Tunes film, with its theatrical release making it a first of its kind. The movie is a spinoff of Max’s Looney Tunes Cartoons series of shorts, which I’ve already been a big fan of, so I’m excited to see the team tackle the first feature-length animated Looney Tunes movie.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie will focus on three popular Looney Tunes characters, with it starring Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and Petunia Pig. The film centers on the trio as they discover secret plans for an alien invasion of Earth, with them having to save the planet in the wake of the aliens mind-controlling many of the Earth’s inhabitants. Some clips and images from the film have already been released, with the movie already proving to be worthy of being the first feature-length fully animated Looney Tunes movie.

The Cancelation Is Still Controversial

The cancelation of Coyote vs. Acme has caused a lot of controversy for Warner Bros. Discovery and the Looney Tunes franchise, with it being one of the biggest movie news stories of 2024. Despite Coyote vs. Acme being a finished film, Warner Bros. Discovery under the leadership of David Zaslav decided to shelve the film for tax purposes, something that has been frequently occurring under the company’s new leadership. This means that Coyote vs. Acme will most likely never be seen, unless another company buys the rights to release the film from Warner Bros. Discovery.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie may still be a gamble for Warner Bros. Discovery, but it has the potential to prove that the Looney Tunes franchise is still profitable. If the movie does well, then it could prove that shelving Coyote vs. Acme was a mistake, one that could have cost the company to lose out on potential money. The upcoming movie seems to be full of classic Looney Tunes humor and character, with it being able to show that Looney Tunes doesn’t have to sell out in order to find an audience.

What To Expect From Looney Tunes’ New Porky Pig and Daffy Duck Movie

It Is Unique For The Looney Tunes Franchise

Daffy and Porky in The Day the Earth Blew Up

Looney Tunes‘ new Porky Pig and Daffy Duck movie is unique when compared to the rest of the franchise, and here’s what to expect from it. The biggest draw of the film is that it focuses on Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, which is a unique pairing for Looney Tunes movies. Previous films like Space Jam and Looney Tunes: Back in Action have mainly focused on Bugs Bunny, with Daffy acting as a secondary protagonist, meaning that the shift in focus for The Day the Earth Blew Up is a unique one.

On top of that, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is fully animated, which is a step away from Looney Tunes movies that have utilized both live-action and animation. Furthermore, the film is 2D animated, making it stand out even more from other animated films. The Day the Earth Blew Up differs from recent Looney Tunes projects in some big ways, but I believe that these changes are welcome ones.
