Stranger Things star Maya Hawke shares her thoughts on filming the final season of the long-running Netflix series. Hawke made her series debut as Robin Buckley in season 3, which was filmed in 2018 and released in 2019. Robin quickly became a fan-favorite character, who returned to play a prominent role in season 4. Hawke will also be part of Stranger Things season 5 as Robin and her friends confront the threats posed by Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and the Upside Down.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of her newest film, Inside Out 2, Hawke shared her emotional reaction to filming Stranger Things season 5, opening up about her individual feelings about concluding Robin’s story and the series as a whole. She also addressed her unique position as an actor who entered the series later, and her desire to be supportive of the cast members who have been part of the series since its first season, which began filming in 2015 and debuted on Netflix in 2016. Check out Hawke’s comments below:

“It’s already starting to be heartbreaking, you know? I mean, it’s the end of a really long journey. Longer for some of my castmates, even, than for me. So it’s really sentimental. But as a late addition cast member, I feel like it’s my job to be here to facilitate their feelings and just be grateful and excited to have been a part of it at all.”

What’s In Store For Robin In Stranger Things Season 5?

Season 4 Ended With Robin Getting Close With Her Crush Vickie.

As is the case for most of Stranger Things‘ characters, season 5 will see Robin fighting to save the world while also navigating her personal relationships. Since her introduction in season 3, she has been at the center of uncovering conspiracies and facing the dangers of the Upside Down. This should continue to be at the heart of the fight alongside her friends in season 5, especially alongside those closest to her, including Steve Harrington (Joe Keery), Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo), and Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer).

The Stranger Things season 4 ending saw Robin bonding with her crush Vickie (Amybeth McNulty). There may not be much time for dating while the Upside Down threatens to consume Hawkins and the rest of the world, but there is potential for Robin and Vickie to begin dating. Robin was the show’s first confirmed LGBTQ+ character, and Robin and Vickie would be the show’s first LGBTQ+ couple.

Why 1 Stranger Things Actor Is Wrong About Their Love Story In Season 5

Stranger Things has become a massive hit over its four seasons, but it’s lacking diversity. This character getting a love interest could fix that.

Hawke has previously shared that she feels “mixed” about Robin getting a girlfriend, believing representation is important, but also that a character should not be primarily defined by their love life, and that she appreciates the exploration of Robin’s friendships with other characters. Season 3 saw her becoming close friends with Steve and Dustin, and season 4 saw her connecting with Nancy and the now-deceased Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn). Stranger Things season 5 can continue exploring these friendships while also having Robin bond with other core characters she hasn’t spent much time with in previous seasons.
