The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim releases new images, revealing a first look at two of the movie’s main characters. Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, the upcoming anime film takes places hundreds of years before the story of Frodo and the One Ring, telling the story of Helm Hammerhand, the founder of Helm’s Deep. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim trailer hasn’t yet been released, but concept art has already provided a look at what’s to come in the movie.
Now, EW shares two new images from The War of the Rohirrim, revealing a first look at Hèra (Gaia Wise), the film’s protagonist, and Wulf (Luke Pasqualino), the central villain. Check out the new images below:
The new images affirm that The War of the Rohirrim will feature a relatively familiar anime style, but also that the movie will feature elements from Peter Jackson’s beloved trilogy. The design of the Rohirrim sword hilt iun Hèra’s hand, for example, is very much the same.

Set before the events of the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is an animated action-adventure fantasy film that follows a King of Rohan named Helm Hammerhand. When his home comes under siege by Dunlendings, Hammerhand prepares himself and his allies to fight back against them, with the war leading to the eventual establishment of Helm’s Deep.
