Warning: Spoilers for Deadpool #3!Deadpool is one of Marvel’s most unkillable superheroes, but he may finally have met his match, as the publisher has unveiled a weapon capable of thwarting even his incredible healing factor. Several weapons capable of killing Deadpool have previously been introduced by Marvel, but now the infamous Muramasa Blade seems poised to be the most legitimate threat to the Merc With a Mouth yet.

In a preview shared by Looper, Deadpool #3 – written by Cody Ziglar, with art by Roge Antonio – raises the specter of a weapon that has the potential to permanently kill Deadpool: the Muramasa Blade. Best known for being capable of muting Marvel’s strongest healing factors, the Blade could prove to be the end of Wade Wilson.

As if the existence of such a weapon did not spell doom for Deadpool already, that same weapon may be falling into the hands of his latest enemy, Death Grip.

There is still much mystery surrounding this Death Grip character, but if one thing is certain, it’s that he seems utterly fascinated with Deadpool. The latter encounters the former during the Deadpool #1, in the midst a contract job. When they cross paths, Death Grip is fixated on the fact that Deadpool cannot die, to the point that he suggests at the end of the issue that this could be an opportunity to learn from Deadpool’s gifts. He’s clearly fascinated by Deadpool’s ability to not die and wants to test the Merc With a Mouth’s limitations.

That brings readers to Deadpool #3, where in the preview panels released for the issue, Death Grip can be seen embarking with his cult of followers on a trip to the mutant planet of Arakko, where he confront Arakko’s resident Adamantium-skinned mutant, Solem. Death Grip hopes to retrieve the Muramasa Blade. Although he may not be as big a fan of Death Grip’s lack of a sense of humor, Solem is fully on board with the idea of Death Grip having and using his blade on Deadpool, as long as he gets to know the details afterward.

The Muramasa Blade Could Prove To Be Deadpool’s Ultimate Undoing

The Weapon Has A Rich History In Marvel Comics

Wolverine uses Muramasa blade on Omega Red.

The Muramasa Blade isn’t a new weapon; rather it has been one of the pivotal weapons in in X-lore. Initially, there were two Muramasa Blades, both created by an immortal swordsman named Muramasa. These blades are capable of granting the user mythical prowess, at the cost of corrupting their mind. The second blade, which Wolverine held for a time, was infused with both his soul and blood, slowing down the healing factor of anyone in the process. Deadpool’s healing factor would be weakened by the blade, just as easily as it can weaken Wolverine’s.

In Deadpool #3, Death Grip seeks to take advantage of this, but it could cost him more than he’s reasonably bargaining for. On one hand, readers still don’t know much about Death Grip, meaning for all readers know, Death Grip is too far gone past corruption for the evils of the blade to wear him down by much. On the other hand, if the blade does make Death Grip grow mad, then it could prove to be his downfall, before he even has the opportunity to use the Muramasa Blade to kill Deadpool.
