As part of a sizzle reel for its next batch of shows and movies, Apple TV+ has unveiled the first footage of Pachinko season 2 ahead of its August 23 return.

New scenes from the popular adaptation were included along with other returning shows such as Silo, Slow Horses, and Severance. The brief Pachinko section focused on Minha Kim and Lee Minho reprising their roles as Teenage Sunja and Koh Hansu.

Season 1 Set A High Bar.

The multi-language drama is premised around the hopes and dreams of a Korean immigrant family, beginning with a forbidden love that gathers steam and builds to a sweeping saga that moves between Japan, Korea, and America. Throughout its first eight episodes, the Apple TV+ drama unravels a story of love and loss, war and peace, and triumph. Pachinko‘s story especially highlights the character of Kim Sunja through the decades, played by different actors, detailing her familial and romantic relationships.

Pachinko‘s cast, which includes Oscar winner Yuh-Jung Youn, Jin Ha, Eunchae Jung, Soji Arai, Junwoo Han, and Anna Sawai, is a big part of the show’s charm. Despite its sweeping scope and ability to draw out its emotional arc, the ensemble can tap into a light touch evident in its joyful opening credits.

With several episodes directed by Kogonada, the filmmaker behind the similarly acclaimed Colin Farrell sci-fi film After Yang, the show’s first season was incredibly adept at moving through different timelines and tones. On Rotten Tomatoes, where it also boasts an 88% audience score, viewers have also responded favorably to the delicate balance and quietly powerful storytelling. With several awards, including a Peabody Award, an American Film Institute Award, and a Critics’ Choice Award, there is a lot of intrigue in the adaptation’s late-summer return.

Pachinko season 2 will premiere on Friday, August 23, 2024, with one episode, followed by one new episode every Friday until the finale on October 11.
