No matter how bad things get, no matter what disaster befalls Earth or Metropolis, Superman will always be there, and he will always fight to make things right. This has led to iconic moments where Superman has stated he won’t ever give up or break, and one cosplayer perfectly shows this off.

Cosplayer melbournesuperman shows a new interpretation of an amazing moment in Action Comics #900 by Paul Cornell and Gary Frank. In this issue, Lex Luthor has gained the power of a God and is trying to use this new power to torture and break Superman. After forcing Superman to relive the loss of his son Chris Kent and the death of his father Jonathan Kent, Lex questions what will make Superman break.

In an iconic moment, Superman looks at Lex Luthor, and —as he has just relived some of the worst traumas he’s ever experienced — tells Lex that no matter what happens, he will never break. It’s a fantastic moment that showcases that no matter what happens to Superman, no villain can break him.

Lex Luthor Questions What Will Make Superman Break

While the context of melbournesuperman’s cosplay is different, the costume and edit capture the same feeling as the original moment, but with a darker twist. While the original comic was a defiant statement against God-like Lex Luthor that nothing he can do will break him, melbournesuperman’s cosplay is much visually darker and even seems to be inspired by Zack Snyder’s Justice League. It’s easy to imagine Henry Cavill’s Superman being pushed to the limit by Darkseid before angrily stating that he cannot and will not ever be broken. It’s a fun twist on a comic moment that not many people are familiar with.

Superman has gone up against tons of practically unstoppable enemies, and they’ve all tried to break him. Superman fought Doomsday, a creature who defeated the entire Justice League with ease, and while Superman was the final shield between Doomsday and the world being destroyed, Superman didn’t break. He managed to beat Doomsday with his final breath. In Superman: Up In The Sky by Tom King and Andy Kubert, Superman crosses the universe just to save one little girl, and the Man of Steel doesn’t give up, no matter what he goes through.

Superman Tells Lex Luthor That He Will Never Break

Superman has many names, but one of the most enduring has always been the Man of Steel. No matter what powerful enemy or situation Superman comes up against, he’s always one of the major keys to winning, be it Doomsday rampaging across Metropolis or Lex Luthor with the power of God. Superman will never break, and this cosplay shows that this memorable quote can be used in many different scenarios. Superman can say it as an act of defiance against Luthor or as a battle cry against Darkseid.
