A fan-favorite scene in Bad Boys: Ride or Die leaves audiences calling for a spinoff. The fourth film in the Bad Boys franchise, the latest edition of the series, sees the return of Mike Lowery and Marcus Bennett, but this time as the two try to clear the name of Captain Conrad Howard, after his death, after he is accused of a drug cartel-related conspiracy. Bad Boys: Ride or Die features a leading cast including Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Eric Dane, Paola Nuñez, and Ioan Gruffudd.

Taking to social media, audiences are now calling for a spinoff movie with the Bad Boys: Ride or Die’s younger cast. The scene in question involves Marcus’ son-in-law, Reggie, murdering a group of mercenaries who pose a threat to wife Megan and the rest of the Burnett family. A number of fans noted the legendary arc of Reggie in Bad Boys: Ride or Die. This led several people to call for a Reggie-based spinoff, saying that he and Armando are “the future of the franchise.” Check out some of their reactions below:

@TheJoeLynch praised Bad Boys: Ride or Die as a whole, specifically calling out Reggie for having “stolen the summer.”

@Bossin_Up_Hood compared Reggie to basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain, implying the legendary status of the Bad Boys 4 character.

User @Lennyfrigginleo posted an image of Reggie and fellow character Scipio, excitedly deeming the characters “THE FUTURE OF THE FRANCHISE.”

Others echoed this Reggie sentiment, such as @MovieFliesLive, who said that the studio should “Greenlight a spinoff with him and Armando.” This user even suggested “Bad Sons” as a title for the potential spinoff, and said that it would be financially successful.

@RealGadza reflected on how much Reggie has grown throughout the Bad Boys series, remembering his “iconic debut” and noting that “him and Armando are the next bad boys!

@Armanivalore lauded Reggie’s entire arc in the film, calling out his big action scene specifically.

@iWriterGirl likened Reggie’s story to John Wick, offering high praise for him and Bad Boys: Ride or Die overall.

How Likely Is a Bad Boys Spinoff?

If Bad Boys 5 is to happen in any way, a spinoff using the younger cast would certainly be a logical follow-up. Bad Boys: Ride or Die leaned more heavily into the next generation than its predecessors, giving attention to those that had previously been side characters. With Reggie’s high kill count in Bad Boys: Ride or Die, he seems like an automatic induction into “bad boys” status and lays the groundwork for strong spinoff potential.

That said, Bad Boys 5 has not been confirmed overall, even though Lawrence has previously mentioned his willingness to make another film in the action franchise. Even though it is unconfirmed, the box office success of Bad Boys: Ride or Die makes that sequel a lot more likely. The franchise film opened to $104.6 million this past weekend, already making back its estimated budget of $100 million. This financial success all but secures Bad Boys 5, which could be announced at any time.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die’s ending reaffirms the themes set up in the previous film and reveals some big retcons about previous villains.

Smith and Lawrence have historically been huge drivers of the Bad Boys series, so it seems like audiences may want them to return for the next movie. With fans calling for a spinoff, however, it makes it more likely that the studio could confidently focus on the younger generation without losing their viewership. Should Bad Boys 5 be a Reggie spinoff, it is sure to be a film replete with both action and an exciting main character arc.
