Warning: contains spoilers for Birds of Prey #10!

One of Darkseid’s ex-minions still poses a grave threat to the Justice League, thanks to her dark power. As Lord of Apokolips, Darkseid has a seemingly endless supply of henchmen and goons, such as Kalibak and Desaad. However, a few have forsaken Darkseid, and managed to escape the Fire Pits of Apokolips. Now, one of them unleashes their full, dark potential in Birds of Prey #10.

Birds of Prey #10 is written by Kelly Thompson and drawn by Robbi Rodriguez and Gavin Guidry. The Birds of Prey, including Barda, are warping through other dimensions before arriving at one oddly patterned after 1950s America. Barda decides she will hide in this reality, but becomes infected by a fragment of Maia, an extradimensional entity.

Now under its influence, Barda becomes a raging machine, easily tearing through Black Canary and the other Birds of Prey.

However, Barda’s mind is strong, and she is able to shake Maia’s influence off.

Barda Is a Rarity In the DC Universe: A Survivor of Apokolips

Barda Overcame Darkseid’s Influence to Become a Great Hero

Barda is a former minion of Darkseid, and one of the few to escape. Raised on Apokolips by the sadistic Granny Goodness to be one of Darkseid’s Female Furies. The Female Furies are one of Darkseid’s elite legions, and only the best, and deadliest, make it in. Barda was the leader of the Furies, but once she met Scott Free, the future Mister Miracle, she fell in love with him and joined him in escaping Darkseid and Apokolips. On Earth, equipped with her MegaRod, Barda becomes a hero like her lover, and was once a member of the Justice League.

On Earth, Barda fought alongside Scott and the Justice League, and distinguished herself as a hero. Scott has been absent from the DC Universe since the completion of Tom King and Mitch Gerard’s Mister Miracle. However, Barda fights on and recently joined the latest incarnation of the Birds of Prey. Trading in the League for the Birds, Barda has been an asset to her new teammates, but as seen in Birds of Prey #10, she has the potential to be a threat. Barda may have escaped Apokolips physically, but the mental scars Granny Goodness inflicted upon her remain.

And these mental wounds have yet to heal, and they make Barda dangerous. Barda was able to make short work of the other Birds of Prey, and luckily did not kill any of them. The Birds, whose roster includes Black Canary, Cassandra Cain and Zealot, are a powerful team, but Barda walks right through them. Fortunately, Barda did not use her MegaRod, which could have made the situation far worse. Even though she was not under Darkseid’s sway in Birds of Prey #10, she still showed she has what it takes to defeat the Justice League almost single-handedly.
