Warning: spoilers ahead for Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #2!As Deadpool undergoes a wild new rebirth, Wade Wilson’s already ultra-powerful healing factor just reached the next level. Thanks to Weapon X’s merciless experiments, Deadpool has one of the most powerful healing factors in the Marvel Universe, able to quickly bounce back from injuries that would end the lives of most other heroes. Now, following further experimentation, Wade is even more unbeatable – and that’s a huge problem, since Wolverine needs to take Deadpool down in order to help him.

In a preview of Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #2, Wolverine battles the newly renamed ‘Wade Wilson III’ – the antihero formerly known as Deadpool. Deadpool has fallen under the control of the villainous Delta, who has upgraded him with energy katanas that emerge from his wrists. In their fight, Wolverine slices off Deadpool’s arm to gain an advantage, only for Wade to instantly regenerate it with the telltale shimmer of Delta’s tech.

Last issue, Deadpool was captured by Delta, who is obsessed with radical change. Wolverine arrived just in time to see Wade reborn, now wearing a new costume and boasting extra powers. Deadpool has also seemingly been brainwashed by Delta, rejecting his former codename and normal motormouth dialogue, and even stating, “I prefer the quiet.”

50 years since he was first introduced to the Marvel Universe, Wolverine just got his best quote of all time, perfectly defining his journey.

Deadpool’s “Wade Wilson III” Upgrade Includes Instant Healing

The Mysterious Delta Has Given Wade Multiple Upgrades

New Marvel Villain Delta in Wolverine and Deadpool World War Comic Art by Adam Kubert

Deadpool’s healing factor is incredibly powerful, having kept him alive even through experiences like being decapitated and burned to ash. Only incredibly rare weapons have any potential to kill Deadpool – indeed, in Marvel’s far future, Deadpool’s daughter had to create an elaborate sci-fi weapon to do so, incinerating them both with neutrino bombs and then collapsing the entire explosion into a black hole so no biological material could escape to regenerate.

DEADPOOL STABS WOLVERINE WITH HIS NEW CLAWS

However, while Deadpool has long been able to survive pretty much anything, it usually takes him a while to heal from major damage. In fact, Wade’s healing body often needs to ‘age up’ to match his adult form, with stories where he’s been forced to endure having a baby-like body until the healing process is complete. In the movies, Deadpool 2 shows Ryan Reynolds’ Wade go through this after he’s torn in half by Juggernaut. However, thanks to Delta’s upgrades, Wade now heals immediately from his injury, regrowing not just his arm but his new energy katana claws.

Wolverine has always struggled to put Deadpool down thanks to Wade’s healing factor and brilliant (if off-kilter) tactical genius – with this latest upgrade, it’s difficult to imagine how Logan can win this fight and bring Wade back to his senses.

Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #2 is coming from Marvel Comics June 12.
