Wolverine may already have a comic-accurate design in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine, but a new fan-made edit has made his costume and style even more similar to his Marvel Comics counterpart. Early set photos from Deadpool & Wolverine confirmed that Hugh Jackman would finally be given a comic-accurate costume in the MCU. This will mark the first time that Wolverine has been seen in live-action with his comic-accurate, yellow-and-blue superhero suit, but this could be taken even further.

While Wolverine will be receiving his most comic-accurate live-action costume ever in Deadpool & Wolverine, Hugh Jackman’s new Wolverine costume still isn’t exactly like it is in the comic source material. However, a new fan-made edit, shared by Dave Franciosa, reveals what this more comic-accurate costume could look like in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Dave Franciosa imagines Wolverine in his sleeveless costume with shoulder pads intact, while his claws have been shortened, the hems of his boots have been lengthened, and he has been gifted his iconic swept-back haircut. This more feral version of Wolverine would be great to see in live-action.

Can We Please Finally Have A Real Wolverine In The MCU’s X-Men Reboot?

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is fantastic, but with his departure comes an opportunity for Marvel to depict a more accurate version in the X-Men reboot.

Why Has It Taken So Long For Wolverine To Get His Classic Suit & Why Full Comics Accuracy Doesn’t Make Sense

When Hugh Jackman first appeared as James “Logan” Howlett’s Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, 20th Century Fox may have been worried that the audience of the time wouldn’t have taken well to the vivid and sometimes-ridiculous nature of the X-Men team’s comic-accurate designs. Instead, the live-action X-Men were put in black leather uniforms that persisted throughout the original X-Men trilogy, and jokes were even made about the fantastical nature of some of the characters’ comic-accurate costumes. This may have made sense at the time, but it was still a shame.

The closest Fox came to giving Wolverine his comic-accurate costume was in a deleted scene from 2013’s The Wolverine. In the wake of The Avengers and the MCU’s rise in popularity, Fox may have believed audiences would be more receptive to seeing the X-Men in their classic, colorful Marvel Comics designs, but this never actually came to fruition on-screen, except for the modernized, dark designs at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse. Marvel Studios will finally give Wolverine his comic-accurate superhero suit in Deadpool & Wolverine, but even this has been dulled down for the MCU.

It’s unlikely that a live-action Wolverine will ever be seen in a fully comic-accurate costume, in much the same way that all the MCU’s heroes’ suits have been altered. Marvel Studios has done a fantastic job of cultivating a sense of realism in the MCU despite the overtly unrealistic storylines and superpowers. Wolverine’s comic-accurate big hair, giant shoulder-pads, and hemmed boots would break the illusion of disbelief for the audience, but Deadpool & Wolverine is proving that a Marvel Comics-inspired Wolverine costume can be just as effective, so hopefully, the rest of the MCU’s X-Men team will follow suit.
