Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is being eagerly awaited by fans around the world, but a key franchise figure has recently teased that the Margot Robbie Pirates spinoff may now be deemed a bigger priority. Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer has commented that Disney is now keener than ever to get Robbie’s franchise installment into production, despite mixed messages about the project being scrapped. The movie was first announced almost half a decade ago and progress since has been almost non-existent. However, Bruckheimer’s remarks have sparked speculation that the movie could be fast-tracked.

Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and Robbie’s spinoff movie are separate projects. While POTC 6 is expected to be a reboot, it’s unclear whether this means the universe will receive a hard reset or whether the movie will simply focus on another group of characters within the same continuity. Robbie’s Pirates movie is similarly nebulous at present, but the leader of the Barbie cast could find herself fronting the Disney-owned franchise sooner rather than later.

Pirates of the Caribbean is a huge Disney franchise that continues to expand, and here’s the chronological order for the series to date.

Pirates Of The Caribbean Update Sounds Like Disney Is Hopeful For Margot Robbie’s Spinoff

Bruckheimer’s comment makes it seem like Robbie’s movie is coming relatively soon

With Johnny Depp’s return to the franchise as Captain Jack Sparrow being hugely uncertain, Disney is eager to have a new face of the franchise. While Depp could still conceivably come back for POTC 6, Margot Robbie’s Pirates project is surely hers to lead. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Bruckheimer confirmed, “We want to get ’em both made, and I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one too.”

With no stars attached to POTC 6, Robbie’s movie would seem to be the priority for Disney out of the two films, especially since the Pirates movie franchise has been inactive since 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales. There’s also the consideration that Barbie‘s recent box office triumph will strongly work in Margot Robbie’s favor when it comes to finally getting her POTC project off the ground. This would explain Disney seemingly having a change of heart regarding whether the movie should happen at all.

Why Margot Robbie’s Pirates Of The Caribbean Spinoff Could Be A Safer Bet Than POTC 6

Pirates 6 may need to start from scratch in terms of its appeal

Because there are so few details about POTC 6, it’s impossible to tell which direction the reboot will take and when it will even happen – despite the fact the movie is confirmed. When it does happen, it could realistically focus on an entirely fresh group of characters, who audiences may not gravitate to immediately in the wake of Depp’s potential departure. Inversely, Margot Robbie is currently one of the biggest names on the planet, and so there’s an increased likelihood of viewers flocking to see her Pirates movie rather than the rebooted universe in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
