Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga features many familiar faces from Mad Max: Fury Road, but one original character is still absent from the movie’s story for a devastating reason. Since Furiosa: A Mad Max serves as a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, it was expected to include several settings and characters from the 2015 George Miller movie. While some of these returning characters, like the titular Furiosa and Immortan Joe, play prominent roles in the prequel film, others, like Organic Mechanic and Valkyrie, only make brief appearances.

Surprisingly, Mad Max, too, has a cameo in the film, though Tom Hardy’s stunt double, Jacob Tomuri, plays the character. The original film’s blazing guitarist, The Doof Warrior, also has a blink-or-miss appearance. Unfortunately, even though nearly every major character from Mad Max: Fury Road shows up in Furiosa: A Mad Saga in some capacity, one remains absent.

Once again returning to the post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max, Furiosa boasts a star-studded cast featuring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth.

Immortan Joe’s Son Corpus Colossus Is Not In Furiosa

His Absence Seems Strange After His Mad Mad: Fury Road Role

Also known as Corpus Callosum, Colossus is portrayed as one of Immortan Joe’s sons in Mad Max: Fury Road. As the movie’s lore suggests, he is Immortan Joe’s oldest child and watches over everyone using his telescope from The Citadel. In Mad Max: Fury Road, he also takes over as The Citadel’s head after Immortan Joe sets out to hunt down Furiosa with his War Boys. The original Mad Max comic describes Corpus as “a man in a child’s body” because his brothers are much bigger than him in stature, but he outsmarts them with his sharp wit and natural leadership skills.

Owing to his intellect and age compared to his brothers, Corpus is considered second in the chain of command at The Citadel, with Immortan Joe being the first. Despite holding such a powerful position at The Citadel, Corpus Colossus is not in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Since Immortan Joe’s other two sons, Rictus Erectus and Scabrous Scrotus, are portrayed as prominent characters in the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, it is hard not to wonder why his oldest child, Corpus Colossus, is not a part of the film’s roster.

Corpus Colossus Is Missing From Furiosa Because Actor Quentin Kenihan Died In 2018

George Miller Preferred Leaving Out Corpus Instead Of Recasting

Corpus Colossus in Mad Max Fury Road

Actor and disability activist Quentin Kenihan, who played Corpus Colossus in Mad Max: Fury Road, passed away on 6 October 2018. He was 43 at the time of his demise, and Mad Max: Fury Road was his last film. Apart from starring in Mad Max: Fury Road, Kenihan also played myriad roles in other movie projects, like Thunderstruck, You and Your Stupid Mate, and Dr. Plonk. He was also the host of a television show titled Quentin Crashes and authored a book titled Not All Superheroes Wear Capes in 2016.

Since Kenihan passed away before Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga began filming, his character is not a part of the prequel film. As Corpus Colossus’ absence from Furiosa suggests, George Miller honored the late actor and did not recast anyone else to play him. Recalling how he landed a role in Mad Max: Fury Road, Quentin Kenihan revealed in an interview (via Gizmodo) that George Miller made him work for the role and auditioned him three times before casting him as the character. After the actor’s demise, George Miller recalled (via 7News Sydney) his time with Kenihan, saying,

“The way he tackled life…the way he lived his life…was just amazing.”

Towards the conclusion of its end-credits, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga features five names under the heading “Vale,” meaning “farewell.” The list contains Quentin Kenihan’s name along with those of other performers who contributed to the franchise and played a crucial role in making it what it is today. Apart from being honored in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Quentin Kenihan is also being remembered through the construction of a disability-accessible playground called the Quentin Kenihan Inclusive Playspace in Adelaide’s Rymill Park.
