Perfect Match season 2 is finally here, and while the show is an exciting mix of Netflix stars, I think it should end after the current season. As the series that brings together the Netflix reality TV universe in a game of love, power, and trust, Perfect Match seems like it would be a fascinating window into the way relationships are built. Though the majority of Netflix stars often either know each other or know of each other, seeing them meet in a new setting where there’s a competition on the line is an interesting twist into their meet-cutes.

While Perfect Match season 1 was notoriously known for none of the couples that ended the season together making it until the show aired months afterward, the series seems to have revamped itself for its sophomore effort. Perfect Match season 2, which features returning cast member The Mole’s Dom Gabriel and a group of newer Netflix stars searching for love, is bringing in new twists, old rivalries, and an exciting cast to watch the drama play out. Though I think Perfect Match season 2 will be a fun time, I firmly believe this should be the show’s last.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

The Cast Doesn’t End Up With Their “Perfect Match”

Throughout Perfect Match season 1, the cast members were tasked with trying to find their perfect person throughout a series of competitions and power shifts. With the majority of the cast new to each other, the Netflix reality TV stars sometimes struggled to find someone in the mix that they were attracted to. Despite knowing that they needed to be coupled up at the end of each night to continue in the game, the Perfect Match season 1 stars sometimes worked more strategically than emotionally. Many, like Perfect Match season 1’s Savannah Palacio , played the game as a strategic competition.

As Perfect Match season 1 continued on, the stars began to settle into their couples, and before long they were at the end of the season. Dom and Too Hot To Handle star Georgia Hassarati ultimately were voted the winners of Perfect Match season 1, and though they were both excited to be bringing home a win, their connection quickly fizzled out. Dom and Georgia broke up before the show even hit Netflix, as did the other couples on the series. Leaving no successful matches, I don’t think the show can match people up successfully to create a lasting bond.

Casting Has Become A Huge Issue

While the cast members of Perfect Match have to come from other Netflix reality TV shows, casting has been one of the biggest issues surrounding the series. Though some may feel differently, I have an issue with Dom returning for a second season of Perfect Match. He was a great addition to the first season, and though he’s one of the most emotionally vulnerable men in the Netflix reality TV universe, he’s already played the game through once and had the opportunity to win. Dom’s time on Perfect Match season 2 feels contrived, as though he’s coming back for redemption.

On top of the casting choices on Perfect Match, there are some issues with the authenticity surrounding the reasons cast members want to be on the show. During the premiere episode of Perfect Match season 2, Bryton Constantin from Squid Game: The Challenge shared that he was interested in finding someone on the series, but primarily cared about winning the competitive side of the game. It felt obvious to me that Bryton, along with other cast members like Love Is Blind’s Micah Lussier and Too Hot To Handle’s Harry Jowsey are on the series for clout first and foremost.

The majority of Netflix reality TV cast members go onto their original shows in order to become famous, find an online following, and cultivate their own personal brand. While I believe that there are surely some people on Perfect Match season 2 for genuine reasons, many of the cast members aren’t concerned with whether they find love or not. Instead, they’re looking for the clout that comes with being on a Netflix series. I’m not interested in watching an inauthentic reality show, so I’m hopeful that Perfect Match either changes its tune or ends.

Perfect Match Tries Too Hard To Be Like Other Similar Reality Shows

Perfect Match Season 2 cast

As Perfect Match continues, it’s become more obvious which reality TV dating shows it’s taking its cue from. With the power bouncing back and forth, Perfect Match has been partially modeled after Bachelor In Paradise, which was a major success. On the other hand, the Boardroom power changes things a bit, along with the element of challenges that the couples compete in for power. Reminiscent of MTV’s Are You The One?, the show mixes reality TV shows together in a way that I don’t think necessarily works. Though Perfect Match could get better, I’m hopeful it’s on its way out.
