Susan Twist’s cryptic watcher takes center stage alongside new and returning friends of the Doctor in the trailer for Doctor Who season 14’s penultimate episode. Ncuti Gatwa leads the latest season of the beloved long-running sci-fi series as the fifteenth incarnation of the Time Lord, who is joined by Millie Gibson’s new companion Ruby Sunday. However, season 14 has had another recurring star, as Twist has played a different character in every Doctor Who episode since 2023’s “The Church on Ruby Road” and hasn’t gone unnoticed by either time traveler.

The latest trailer for “The Legend of Ruby Sunday” has been released on the official Doctor Who YouTube channel. Watch it below:

The trailer recaps Twist’s previous appearances in past episodes alongside two more monstrous doppelgängers. It is then revealed the seemingly original Susan Triad is terrified by her copies. While UNIT allies both new and old, including Yasmin Finney’s Rose Noble, Bonnie Langford’s Mel Bush, and Jemma Redgrave’s Kate Stewart, will aid the Doctor and Ruby, a sinister threat approaches that leaves the united heroes fearful.

Just Who Is Behind Susan Twist’s Many Appearances?

Will The Fifteenth Doctor Be Able To Resolve This Mystery?

Following her debut in the 60th-anniversary’s second episode as Sir Isaac Newton’s (Nathaniel Curtis) maid Miss Merridew, Susan Twist has been one of season 14’s most highly-theorized questions behind Ruby’s parantage. While Davies joked that her repeated appearances are simply due to a shortage of supporting actors, there have been speculations about whether Twist’s appearances are due to being a humanized TARDIS akin to season 6’s Idris (Suranne Jones), with S.Triad being an anagram of the vessel’s name. However, official teases and statements hint at much older forces at play.

Susan Twist’s Doctor Who Season 14 “Bridgerton” Cameo Is Very Easy To Miss

Susan Twist’s roles in Doctor Who season 14 have varied in their prominence, but “Rogue” has her most subtle appearance in the show yet.

In an article promoting season 14, Davies revealed that elements from Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor era will play a part in the penultimate episode. It’s now revealed to be focused on Twist, as secrets locked within UNIT’s vaults connect to her and Ruby’s past. Furthermore, between “The Legend of Ruby Sunday” and the finale “Empire of Death,” a new Tales of the TARDIS episode will be released. With Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor era not featured in the 2023 episodes and the pyramids behind the Twist duplicate, there is the theory that Sutekh the Destroyer may be behind the mystery, with the spin-off revisiting the 70s villain’s debut.

No matter who is behind the mystery of Twist’s recurrence, it is clear that “The Legend of Ruby Sunday” will be an important chapter in season 14’s overall arc. Between returning faces and long-awaited answers to two of the season’s most pressing questions, Davies has also teased that the final two chapters of Gatwa’s debut season will be a heartbreaking tale that sets the stage for Doctor Who season 15 episodes. As such, season 14’s penultimate chapter promises to be a packed episode that will finally unveil what forces have left Twist spread across history.

Originally premiered in 1963, Doctor Who is a sci-fi series that follows a powerful being known as a Time Lord, referred to as the Doctor. Using an interdimensional time-traveling ship known as the TARDIS, the Doctor travels time and space with various companions as they solve multiple problems and help avert catastrophe as much as they almost cause it. Though the Doctor is always the same character, they experience regenerations, allowing them to be recast every few seasons as a unique immortal being with new personality traits.
