Gen V executive producer Eric Kripke shares how Chance Perdomo’s death will be addressed in season 2 following the decision not to recast his character. Perdomo, who played Andre Anderson in season 1, passed away at the age of 27 due to a fatal motorcycle crash in March 2024. The producers previously confirmed that the role of Andre would not be recast for Gen V season 2 and that they would instead rework the planned storylines to honor Perdomo and his legacy.

While speaking with TVLine, Kripke confirmed that not only is Perdomo not being recast, but that Andre’s death will be integrated into season 2. “First, it’s just so unbelievably tragic, and my heart goes out to his family. We’re not trying to replace him because we can’t. We’re playing the character’s death on the show. So it’s very heavy and it’s really emotionally difficult for the cast. And we’re just trying to honor Chance as best we can.”

Gen V Can Follow The Example Of Another Superhero Story That Faced Real-World Tragedy

Andre’s Legacy Should Be Honored In Gen V Season 2.

Another prominent superhero story that faced real-world tragedy, Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, set an example of how to gracefully honor the death of a major star. After the passing of Chadwick Boseman, a new T’Challa was not recast for the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel film. Instead, Wakanda Forever addressed T’Challa’s death in its very first scene, and his powerful legacy and the hole left by his absence were integral to the story and to the arc of Shuri (Letitia Wright) throughout the entire film.

Based on Kripke’s comments, Gen V can take a similar approach, as Andre’s death should be addressed early in the first episode. At the end of Gen V season 1, Andre is imprisoned in a mysterious facility along with his friends Marie, Emma Meyer (Lizzie Broadway), and Jordan Li (London Thor and Derek Luh). The series will need to explain why Andre is dead and why the others are still alive. Regardless of the answer, Andre’s death should have a profound impact on the other characters and be critical to the season’s overarching narrative.

Grappling with the grief of losing their friend will likely be part of the journey Marie, Emma, Jordan, and the other characters go through in season 2. As they fight back against the sinister plans of Godolkin University and Vought, they can do so in honor of Andre, who bravely challenged these corrupt institutions. Just as Boseman was not recast in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, it is the right call not to recast Perdomo and to instead honor him through Andre’s legacy and enduring impact in Gen V season 2.
