While Tom Holland’s first Spider-Man trilogy is over, the actor still has a bright future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there is a major aspect of his movies as Peter Parker that has me extremely excited to watch Spider-Man 4. Spider-Man is my favorite Marvel hero. As a major fan of all three movie versions of the character, 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home was an absolute dream come true, and it stands as my favorite among all Spider-Man movies due to bringing the Spider-Men of my childhood together with Holland’s Peter Parker.

Spider-Man: No Way Home was a major win for Marvel Studios, doing Avengers-level numbers at the box office, with almost $2 billion, and being universally beloved. Following it will be a tough act, no question. That said, I have faith in the new direction the character will be in the MCU after Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s ending, and while we still have no details about Spider-Man 4‘s plot — and the movie has no director — I would be lying if it weren’t already one my most anticipated MCU projects, and a major trend has to do with that.

Spider-Man 4 will be a new beginning for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, and the next step in his MCU journey could include classic Marvel characters.

All The Main Tom Holland Spider-Man Villains Are Amazing

The MCU Has Given Spider-Man Fantastic Foes

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies have had spectacular main villains. First was Michael Keaton’s Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. While it was cool to see the aerial combat that Vulture brought to the table, the best part of the character was undoubtedly the car scene, where Adrian Toomes managed to be even more menacing without his suit. Then came Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Jokes about his connection to Iron Man aside, Mysterio pushed Spider-Man in a new way, betraying his trust and ultimately revealing the hero’s secret identity.

Spider-Man: No Way Home gave Holland a break from fighting new MCU villains, with the Multiverse Saga allowing the film to bring back exciting villains from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man franchises. Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin was the movie’s main villain. I loved Dafoe’s take on Norman Osborn in the Maguire Spider-Man trilogy, but I thought the actor managed to be even better in Spider-Man: No Way Home. A huge part of that was the absence of a helmet, which allowed Dafoe to really flex his acting muscles in the role and make Green Goblin a deranged villain.

No Way Home set up a personal, street-level story for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4, and some Marvel Comics villains would be great for the movie.

Spider-Man 4 Can Easily Continue That Trend

No Way Home Set Up Spider-Man 4 Nicely

While Holland’s Spider-Man movies have already used a lot of the character’s most popular villains, especially after all the returning foes from Maguire and Garfield’s films, there are still many exciting villains that could appear in Spider-Man 4 to continue the MCU’s trend of having Spider-Man movie villains be among the shared universe’s best. Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s ending set up a more personal story for Peter Parker after the major multiverse event that was the film. Spider-Man 4 will be the start of a new era, potentially setting up another MCU trilogy for Holland.

As such, the film could set up not only a major villain, but a few characters that could grow in importance in later films. Spider-Man 4, with Peter Parker at the lowest point in his life, could make for a perfect gritty, street-level film. That scenario lends itself well to multiple villains, such as Scorpion wearing his suit after a Spider-Man: Homecoming tease. A version of “Kraven’s Last Hunt” could also be effective for an intense and violent story. Given there is a piece of the symbiote in the MCU, a black suit story and Venom are also possible.

I Want Kingpin To Be The Villain Of Spider-Man 4

The MCU Might Be Setting It Up

While there are many villains that could fit Spider-Man 4, the one I really want to see trade blows with Peter Parker is Kingpin. Vincent D’Onofrio gave life to one of the best live-action Marvel villains for three seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil. Now that his Wilson Fisk can interact with other MCU heroes and characters, Kingpin, who is a major Spider-Man villain in the comics, can finally fight the hero on the big screen. D’Onofrio is a fan of that idea, as is Holland, so let’s make that happen.

Why The Return Of Marvel’s Best Series Is My Most Anticipated 2025 MCU Show

Marvel Studios’ TV department is going through some necessary changes, and those only elevate my excitement for a major 2025 MCU series.

Spider-Man: No Way Home featured the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, already establishing a connection between Spider-Man and Daredevil, as Matt was Peter’s lawyer. Daredevil: Born Again will show Kingpin’s mayoral race, and there is a major story from Marvel Comics that could be used as a major street-level event in Spider-Man 4. “Devil’s Reign” saw Mayor Fisk outlaw vigilantes and make life hell for Spider-Man, Daredevil, and other street-level heroes. I would love to see Spider-Man and Daredevil team up in Spider-Man 4 to take down Kingpin, giving Holland another exciting event and a strong main villain.

Spider-Man 4 is the first sequel to the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy starring Tom Holland as the titular wall-crawler. After wiping his identity for the public’s memory in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker continues his crime-fighting adventures without the aid of Iron Man technology or the support of his former allies.
