Warning: Spoilers for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return #4!

Power Rangers has introduced a mysterious new White Ranger, leading to a frenzy of fan speculation about who might have taken the mantle most traditionally associated with Tommy Oliver. The miniseries Power Rangers: The Return ended on the cliffhanger reveal of a female White Ranger, meaning fans will have to wait for a sequel – if there is one – to find out who is wearing the uniform.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return #4 – written by Amy Jo Johnson and Matt Hotson with art by Nico Leon – marks the final issue of the miniseries. The issue left several unresolved threads to be dealt with in a future sequel, but none was as urgent as the appearance of a mysterious White Ranger.

The final page ends with a female White Tiger Ranger emerging out of the shadows of the Command Center to confront Selena Repulsa. While the future of this series is uncertain, readers are left screaming, wanting to know who is under the helmet.

The New White Ranger Is Now The Franchise’s Greatest Mystery

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return #4 – Written by Amy Jo Johnson & Matt Hotson; Art By Nico Leon, Dono Sanchez-Almara, & Ed Dukeshire

Selena Repulsa suits up as the Yellow Ranger, amid the rubble of the Command Center; is confronted by a mystery figure.

Since the Power Rangers never separated in this universe, that also means there were significant changes to this version of the canon. Among them is that Tommy never gets promoted from being the Green Ranger to the White Ranger leading the team. In fact, he sacrifices his life to ensure the decimation of evil, leaving him absent for several years until a shocking return in this issue. In the place of Rita Repulsa, her secret daughter ascends, but Selena Repulsa is nonetheless defeated.

Selena Repulsa retreats to what’s left of the Power Rangers’ Command Center as her new solace, as her parents destroyed it decades prior. Except, to Selena’s surprise, she’s not alone as a female White Ranger appears, asking where Zordon is. It’s especially surprising for her to ask about Zordon, when Zordon was killed in the Command Center’s dark destruction decades beforehand. Readers will wonder if that is a hint as to who could be under the helmet: perhaps it’s some who expected to see Zordon because they only just arrived on the planet.

“The Return” Needs To Get A Sequel, So Fans Can Learn The White Ranger’s Identity

There Are Several Potential Candidates

Unless the hints are really subtle, it doesn’t appear any moments from these four issues of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return foreshadow either the White Ranger’s arrival, or their identity. Then again, with Selena Repulsa being a prime example, this series has not been shy about introducing entirely new, never-before-seen characters. The White Ranger could wind up being someone that readers have never encountered before, either in this series or the original show.

Alternatively, since the series has offered modern twists on classic characters – like a monstrous Finster, or a vigilante Jason – the same could be the case for this Ranger. This could be a character that fans will recognize from the show; it could be Delphine, the White Alien Ranger for example, or even an ally from Eltar. Whoever this Ranger is, depending on this encounter with Selena, who may even manipulate her into doing her bidding, this new female White Ranger could wind up joining the Power Rangers, or opposing them.
