The Creep movies will expand now on TV, which is a much better alternative than a third movie. Found footage is one of the most popular branches of the horror genre, and in 2017, writer and director Patrick Brice gave it a twist in Creep. This found footage psychological horror movie was Brice’s directorial debut and starred Brice and Mark Duplass, who also co-wrote the script. Creep was released in 2014 and was a critical success, making way for a sequel, simply titled Creep 2, released in 2017, also to great success.

Creep follows Aaron (Brice), a struggling videographer who travels to a remote cabin to work with his new client, Josef (Duplass). Josef explains he has an inoperable brain tumor and will die before his pregnant wife gives birth, so he wants to record a video diary for his unborn child. However, the more time they spend together, the more Aaron realizes that Josef isn’t being honest, and that his real plans are actually quite sinister. Despite plans for a third Creep movie, the title character will now move to TV, and this is a much better decision than a third film.

The Creep Tapes TV Show Gives More Creative Possibilities Than Creep 3

Creep 3 Is Good, But The Creep Tapes Is Better

Creep movie

On June 4, 2024, Duplass posted a video on TikTok wearing the wolf mask his character wears (and which is best known as “Peachfuzz”). The video ends with “coming soon”, sparking rumors about Creep 3 finally happening, but it was a different project within the universe of Creep. Duplass’ announcement was about a TV show titled The Creep Tapes, which will be based on a collection of video tapes from the secret vault of his character, who he called “the world’s deadliest and most socially uncomfortable serial killer” (via Indie Wire).

Creep’s Peachfuzz Is An Underrated Horror Villain

Mark Duplass’ character Josef is the villain proper of Creep, but the movie wouldn’t be as disturbing without his terrifying alter ego Peachfuzz.

Each half-hour episode of The Creep Tapes will be centered on a new victim, meaning that the “creep” has a wide collection of videotaped crimes. Production on The Creep Tapes wrapped in secret, but it’s currently unknown where and when it will premiere. As exciting as Creep 3 would have been, The Creep Tapes is the best way to expand this world as it gives a lot more creative possibilities. Each episode covering a different victim can show the many ways the “creep” has to lure his victims and psychologically torture them, without worrying about having to extend the story to fit a movie’s length.

The Creep Tapes is also the best way to avoid feeling repetitive. Creep and Creep 2 were critical successes, and Creep 2 saved itself from being a copy of its predecessor by changing the way the title character approached his victim, which also made him more terrifying. However, it still had the same structure as the first movie, which would have most likely also happened in the third movie. The Creep Tapes can be more terrifying than Creep 3 as it can leave the fates of the victims a mystery, while showing that the “creep” truly knows no limits.

Can Creep 3 Still Happen?

Creep 3 Has Been In Development Since 2017

Creep (2014)

The success of the first two movies made way for the confirmation of Creep 3 in 2017. Back then, Brice said the project was in development and he would return to direct, with Duplass reprising his role. However, in 2020, Duplass told Indie Wire that they were struggling to come up with a story for the third film, and though they were “putting effort into it”, they didn’t feel what they had was “good enough yet”. Unfortunately, there have been no more updates on Creep 3 since then, so for now, The Creep Tales will be its replacement.
