Award-winning Nightwing artist Bruno Redondo has taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to pose the ultimate challenge to fans: name a villain with a “more stupid” name and concept than one of DC’s newest villains that Redondo himself created. Screen Rant has accepted Redondo’s dare and is responding with a Wonder Woman villain that is beyond wild.

On June 5, 2024, double Eisner Award winner and comic book artist Bruno Redondo posted on his X account a dare for fans: find a DC villain with a “more stupid” name and proposal than his self-created Gotham villain, Dr. De-Extinguisher King. This wild character debuted in Redondo’s Harley Quinn: Black + White + Redder #6.

Given this character’s name and his bizarre gimmick of building giant robots of extinct animals to “resurrect” them before blowing them up with an obscene amount of explosives, it will be a challenge for fans to find a villain to compete—though not impossible, as Screen Rant will soon demonstrate.

Bruno Redondo Dares Fans to Name a “More Stupid” Villain than Harley Quinn’s Dr. De-Extinguisher King

Harley Quinn: Black + White + Redder #6 features DC’s Gotham Siren alongside Nightwing, Batman, Batgirl, and Robin in a story that is filled with an extreme amount of absurdity and culminates in the debut of one of DC’s wildest rogues—Dr. De-Extinguisher King. Redondo brilliantly portrays Dr. De as a caricature of all the most outlandish villain stereotypes, including detailed monologues, villainous cackles, bizarre gimmicks, and a love for giant red buttons. For fans eager to see this villain for themselves, the complete volume of Harley Quinn: Black + White + Redder #1-6 will be available on July 16, 2024.

What sets Dr. De-Extinguisher apart and makes him such a welcome addition to the DC Universe is his embodiment of the old-school absurdity that characterized many classic villains. Nowadays, DC often focuses on creating more serious and menacing villains, vying to make them the ultimate threat or the next big bad. As a result, Redondo’s creation of a whimsical, Dodo bird-loving old man stands out as one of the most delightful additions to the DCU in recent years, injecting a sense of wild fun and levity into the mix.

Challenge Accepted, Bruno Redondo: Wonder Woman’s ‘Egg-Fu’ Is BY FAR DC’s Stupidest Villain

Wonder Woman #158 Egg-Fu cover

Dr. De-Extinguisher King may be absurd, but when it comes to the title of the stupidest villain name and concept, Wonder Woman’s Egg-Fu undoubtedly takes the cake. Created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru, Egg-Fu made his debut in Wonder Woman #157 (1965) as a giant, supergenius egg who maneuvered using a mechanical exoskeleton resembling spider legs. What’s more, Egg-Fu was a former communist agent, adding another layer of absurdity to this already eccentric character. So, in the battle for DC’s most ludicrous villain, will it be Harley Quinn’s Dr. De-Extinguisher King or Wonder Woman’s Egg-Fu who emerges victorious?

Nightwing

Nightwing is the superhero moniker given to various vigilante heroes in the D.C. universe. Nightwing is depicted as a warrior who fights from the shadows, utilizes near-superhuman agility and expert combat skills, and tends to have several tools at their disposal. Though Nightwing began with Kal El/Clark Kent, Nightwing has since been primarily associated with Dick Grayson, a former Robin who grew into the new role.
