Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s best possible post-credits scene was secretly revealed two years ago during Sonic the Hedgehog 2, setting the stage for a major storyline in future movies. Both films in Paramount’s Sonic movie universe have included post-credits scenes teasing the next adventure to come. Sonic the Hedgehog 2‘s post-credits scene revealed Shadow the Hedgehog, who will be the newest antagonist in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3. These scenes act as stepping stones between entries in the movie universe, adding important context to the world at the same time.

So far, every new post-credits scene has paid off in the film that follows, with none of them teasing anything long-term that could happen many movies down the line. The only exception was the ending of Knuckles, which didn’t include an extra scene during the credits. However, an event that transpired during Sonic the Hedgehog 2 may have secretly revealed what the next movie’s teaser is going to be. It also might set up a long-term story arc connected to Sonic’s past.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Hinted At The Babylon Rogues

Sonic & Tails’ Adventure In Siberia Hinted At Their Appearances

In Sonic the Hedgehog 2, when Sonic and Tails are searching for the Master Emerald in Siberia, the pair come across a dilapidated temple with ancient inscriptions all over it. This is where they discover the Emerald, and learn more details about the war between the owls and the echidnas. When asked about the ancient writing by UltimaShadow, character designer and co-producer Tyson Hesse confirmed the writing was Babylonian, as seen in the 2006 game Sonic Riders. This development opens the door for the Babylon Rogues to join the movie universe.

In the game universe, the Babylon Rogues consist of Jet the Hawk, Storm the Albatross, and Wave the Swallow. The group of thieves descended from the ancient civilization of Babylon, the trio are best known for racing around on hoverboards called Extreme Gears. Starting as villains for Sonic, their core purpose in Sonic Riders is winning a race set up by Dr. Eggman, who says he can use the Chaos Emeralds to make their ancient homeland, the Babylon Garden, return. However, with the movie’s new context, the Babylonians might have a different role than their video game counterparts.

How The Babylonians Can Appear In Sonic The Hedgehog 3’s Post-Credits

The Babylon Rogues Might Be Connected To The Master Emerald

The Babylonian script on the temple Sonic and Tails find indicate that, if the trio do appear in the movie universe, they’ll likely be connected to the owls of Sonic’s homeworld. Because of this, they’ll probably have a different motivation in the movies aside from searching for a lost city. Much like how Iblis’ brief appearance in Knuckles altered his backstory, the Rogues might have different motivations tying them closely to the main heroes. Given the temple’s connection to the Master Emerald, perhaps Jet and his crew are seeking the powerful artifact.

If the trio do appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s post-credits scene, they’ll likely be motivated by the Master Emerald or a similar goal to find a way to Earth. This would give them an excuse to show up in the movie, still maintaining their thief personas but also having closer connections to Sonic’s homeworld. It would explain the script on the temple while also aligning their personalities with their video game counterparts. Their origins from Sonic’s world would also give them a vital story focus in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 that helps tie up loose ends from the very first movie.

The Babylonians Can Play A Big Role In Sonic The Hedgehog 4

Jet & His Crew Might Know What Happened To The Owls & Echidnas

If the Babylon Rogues are from Sonic’s world, their appearance could lead to the Blue Blur learning more about what happened to his home after Longclaw sent him through the ring portal. Since the Rogues may have been in their world for quite some time, they might know the true outcome of the echidna and owl conflict. If this is the case, then they could offer closure to what happened not only to the owls, but to Knuckles’ Echidna Tribe as well. This can potentially open the door for how future stories play out depending on what the outcome was.

Another possibility is that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a loose adaptation of Sonic Riders, the Babylonians bringing Gears to Earth and using them to continue their thievery in the human world. They might also be influenced to find the Master Emerald, pitting them against Sonic and friends in their quest. While it’s unclear what the story might be, it’s also possible Dr. Robotnik becomes involved in the story, perhaps tricking the Rogues into helping him with another nefarious scheme.

Thanks to the appearance of Babylonian writing in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it makes it very possible for the Babylon Rogues to show up later in the movie universe. Their appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 isn’t clear just yet, but the nod to the game lore indicates they could be the next major characters the film franchise introduces. With plenty of stories for the films to tackle, it might not be long before the avian trio make their live-action debut.
