Outer Range starring Josh Brolin has become a streaming success following its season 2 release. First premiering in Prime Video in 2022, creator Brian Watkins’ sci-fi Western stars Brolin as Royal Abbott, a rancher who discovers a mysterious void in the far-reaches of his property as he attempts to protect his land from a rival family. Outer Range season 2 was released on the streamer on May 16, earning generally positive reviews from critics.

Now, Reelgood reveals that Outer Range is the sixth most popular TV show on streaming for the week of May 23 – 29. The sci-fi Western beats out the likes of Bodkin, Hacks, and The Veil, but falls short of titles like Young Sheldon, Evil, and, in the number one spot, Dark Matter. How Has Outer Range Been Received?

Outer Range has generally been met with a positive reception from audiences and critics. Season 1 was praised for its performance and intriguing science-fiction premise, but some critics took issue with the season’s lack of narrative focus. The Outer Range season 1 finale, however, introduced some exciting new elements and set the show up for further exploration of the mysterious void.

As seen in the chart above, season 2 has largely been an improvement over season 1 in terms of critical reception. Audiences, too, tend to be enjoying Outer Range‘s sophomore outing more. The show’s greatest strength in season 2 seems to be a doubling down on the more outlandish elements of season 1, which has in turn helped the series find its footing and clearly establish its own sci-fi niche.

While the season 2 reviews have been generally very positive, it’s unclear whether Outer Range season 3 will get the green light. The main determining factor will, of course, be viewership, and the show’s appearance on Reelgood’s streaming chart is certainly a positive sign in this regard. If Outer Range season 2 is any indication, season 3 would see the show on even surer footing as the mystery continues to unfold.
