The Sentinels are the stuff of nightmares for the X-Men, and now an eight-foot-tall cosplay brings the mutant death machine to terrifying life. The massive, mutant-hunting Sentinels would prove a daunting challenge for any cosplayer, but the acclaimed cosplayer bearded_tattooed_guy_in_ga, has risen to the occasion. His cosplays regularly wow fans and pros alike at conventions, and his Sentinel needs to be seen to be believed.
Bearded_tattooed_guy_in_ga unveiled the cosplay in a video post on Instagram. He prefaces the video by saying the cosplay was “8’ tall and awesome.” It is an apt description, as he has created the perfect replica of a Sentinel. The recreation is not only comics accurate, but highly functional as well. Bearded_tattooed_guy_in_ga is able to move about in the cosplay, and his jerky, robotic style of moving adds a layer of authenticity to the cosplay.
He signs off the cosplay by warning the mutants of MoMoCon that he was coming for them.
The Sentinels Are the X-Men’s Biggest Enemies–Literally
Bringing the Sentinels to Live Action Has Proven Challenging
The Sentinels strike fear into the hearts of mutants around the world. Debuting in 1965’s Uncanny X-Men #14, these lumbering, mutant-hunting robots were the product of Doctor Bolivar Trask. In the years since, the Sentinels have become one of the biggest threats to mutants, and remain so to this day. Numerous models of Sentinels have been introduced over the years, ranging from the massive robots of old down to nanite-sized variants. All of them were highly effective mutant-killing machines, but the classic model, seen in bearded_tattooed_guy_in_ga’s cosplay, remains permanently etched in fans’ minds.
Although the Sentinels have been staples of X-Men comics and cartoons, depicting them in live-action form proved to be tricky. The first X-Men movies released by the former 20th Century Fox in the early 2000s skipped the Sentinels, although they were alluded to throughout the series. By the 2010s, however, special effects technology allowed the Sentinels to come to life. In 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future’s Past, mutant fans finally got to see the Sentinels, and they were as terrifying as their comic book counterparts, easily picking off the X-Men and their allies.
