Nicholas Galitzine’s He-Man casting has been met with some skepticism, but two of his movies prove he’s the perfect choice for the Masters of the Universe reboot – whatever direction the filmmakers take. A new live-action Masters of the Universe movie has been in and out of development for years, but it’s finally starting to take shape. Bumblebee’s Travis Knight has been confirmed for the director’s chair and the Masters of the Universe reboot is slated for a theatrical release on June 5, 2026.

The producers of the new Masters of the Universe movie have finally revealed who they’ve chosen to play He-Man: Nicholas Galitzine. With roles in Mary & George, Camila Cabello’s Cinderella, and Red, White & Royal Blue, Galitzine is one of the hottest young actors in Hollywood right now. There’s been some skepticism that Galitzine can fill the role previously played by Dolph Lundgren, but two of the actor’s recent movies prove he’s the perfect casting choice, no matter what kind of reboot they make.

Bottoms Proves Nicholas Galitzine Is Perfect For A Goofy, Self-Aware He-Man

Galitzine’s Jeff is basically a silly, Thor: Ragnarok-esque He-Man

One possible approach to the Masters of the Universe reboot would be a comedic, self-parodying take like Thor: Ragnarok. If the producers are looking for a goofy, self-aware portrayal of He-Man, then Galitzine’s turn in the hit 2023 comedy Bottoms proves he’ll be perfect. In Bottoms, Galitzine plays Jeff, the high school’s star football player who’s so pampered and coddled that he doesn’t even have to push his own lunch tray along the counter in the cafeteria.

Jeff is the kind of naive, clueless meathead that Taika Waititi characterized Thor as in Ragnarok. And whether he was overreacting to a mild injury or dancing to “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” Galitzine nailed every gag. If the Masters of the Universe reboot is a self-deprecating comedy, Galitzine will surely give a hilarious lead performance.

The Idea Of You Proves Galitzine Could Also Play A More Serious He-Man

If the Masters of the Universe producers are aiming for a more serious and sincere take on the material, then Galitzine’s work in the acclaimed 2024 romantic drama The Idea of You proves he’d be perfect for that, too. Famously based on Harry Styles fan fiction, The Idea of You revolves around a middle-aged woman who faces intense media scrutiny when she starts dating a twentysomething pop idol, played by Galitzine. Despite its cheesy premise, The Idea of You takes its love story seriously.

Galitzine did a great job of playing his character’s emotions earnestly and making the romance ring true in spite of the soapy, melodramatic premise. He could do the same thing with the Masters of the Universe mythology. He would nail a sincere portrayal of He-Man that takes his problems seriously.

Masters of the Universe

Masters of the Universe is a live-action movie that reboots the popular He-Man franchise. Decades after Dolph Lundgren starred in the first live-action Masters of the Universe movie, Kyle Allen takes on the role of He-Man. The film is directed by Adam and Aaron Nee and is also a Netflix original film.
