Anakin Skywalker is one of the most iconic Star Wars characters of all time, and because of his many appearances, he has many quotable lines. After being discovered as a slave on Tatooine, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn freed Skywalker from bondage and had him trained as a Jedi. It was believed that Anakin was the Chosen One, meaning he was especially attuned to the Force. Anakin was one of the main characters of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, as well as the animated television show, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

As more and more content including Anakin has been released, there have been more moments that make audiences love him. Knowing him on such a deep level makes his ultimate fall to the dark side even more tragic. Though Anakin has been primarily played by Hayden Christensen in live-action and Matt Lanter in animation, both help form this whole picture of the character that makes Anakin one of the best characters in the franchise. Here are some of Anakin Skywalker’s best quotes from Star Wars.

“This Is Where The Fun Begins!”

Star Wars Episode III—Revenge of the Sith

One of the first lines in Star Wars Episode III—Revenge of the Sith comes from Anakin Skywalker as he and Obi-Wan Kenobi engage in a space battle above Coruscant. As Anakin and Obi-Wan’s ships engage with droids, Anakin laughs and exclaims “This is where the fun begins!” The line has now become synonymous with Anakin’s character, so much so that Hayden Christensen even quoted it at Star Wars Celebration 2022 during an interview for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

The quote highlights just how much Anakin enjoys combat. He was always a Jedi who enjoyed action, which was one of the reasons why he was so renowned in the Clone Wars. What he ignored in terms of Jedi protocol, he made up for with his skill and ability to take on any enemy, often walking out on the winning side. This quote is such a great transition if someone watched Revenge of the Sith right after Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

“One is Never Too Old to Learn, Snips.”

Ahsoka Season 1, Episode 5 “Shadow Warrior”

Ahsoka wbuilt upon so many different Star Wars titles, but still managed to tell an original story that was incredibly engaging. Hayden Christensen’s return in Ahsoka was one of the high points in the entire Disney+ TV show. Anakin’s appearance in The World Between Worlds in Ahsoka episode 5 was the perfect way to bring back the character in a meaningful way.

While in the World Between Worlds, Ahsoka Tano comes face-to-face with her former master, who says he’s there to finish her training. Ahsoka comments that it’s a little late to finish her training, considering she had left the Jedi Order nearly 30 years earlier, but Anakin responds that one is never too old to learn. Not only does this line resonate because of Ahsoka’s character arc in the show, but it’s also a good life lesson for anyone watching, showing that no matter your experiences and what you think you know, there’s always more to learn.

“I Don’t Like Sand. It’s Coarse and Rough and Irritating, and it Gets Everywhere.”

Star Wars Episode II—Attack of the Clones

In what be one of the most meme-able moments from the entire Star Wars prequels, while on Naboo, Anakin Skywalker tells Padmé Amidala that he doesn’t like sand. The moment is incredibly awkward, but still somehow ends with Anakin and Padmé sharing their first kiss. The scene still leaves audience members questioning how a rant about sand led to Padmé and Anakin falling in love, though the sentiment behind the moment makes it better.

Anakin is tasked with protecting Padmé for most of Star Wars Episode II — Attack of the Clones. However, the film builds up the pair’s love story and shows how love can grow even in the most dire circumstances. While Anakin may not have chosen the most romantic way to show how he cared for Padmé, his surreal chat-up line ultimately accomplished its goal.

“I Have Brought Peace, Justice, and Security to My New Empire”

Star Wars Episode III—Revenge of the Sith

Anakin Skywalker’s turn to the dark side in Revenge of the Sith was no surprise to anyone who’d watched the Star Wars original trilogy, but that didn’t make it any less tragic. One of the best action sequences in all of Star Wars comes when Anakin faces off against his former master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Before their fight, Anakin and Obi-Wan have an exchange that is beloved by fans. Anakin proclaims that his actions were to make a better world and that Obi-Wan and the Jedi are the evil ones.

The exchange has been made into a meme, is constantly quoted by fans, and is instantly recognizable. While this quote doesn’t come at Anakin’s best moment, it is forever iconic. It shows just how far Anakin has fallen, in just a few brief words.

“You Should Be More Patient Master. After All, The Count is an Elderly Gentleman and Doesn’t Move Like He Used to.”

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 1, Episode 12 “The Gungan General”

One of the best aspects of getting to see more of Anakin Skywalker in The Clone Wars is that audiences get to see much more of his humor. Anakin is an incredibly funny character, and that often gets overlooked by other aspects of his personality. In The Clone Wars season 1, episode 12, Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Count Dooku are all captured by pirates led by Hondo Onaka and have to work together if they are to escape.

The three are all bound together, which leads to some hilarious banter, including Anakin sarcastically telling Obi-Wan he needs to be more patient because Count Dooku is old. Dooku responds that if he wasn’t bound to the Jedi he’d kill them right there. The moment is small and quick but is one of Anakin’s best quips in the entire show. It perfectly shows his quick wit, his inability to take things too seriously, and ways to annoy his adversary.

“General Grievous. You’re Shorter Than I Expected”

Star Wars Episode III—Revenge of the Sith

Anakin Skywalker never met General Grievous in The Clone Wars, only facing him for the first time at the beginning of Revenge of the Sith. Grievous taunts Anakin after having him, Obi-Wan, and Chancellor Palpatine captured. Grievous says that with a reputation like Anakin’s, he expected him to be older.

Anakin is quick to respond that he expected the droid general to be taller. The moment is an underrated but humorous one, as Anakin was truly in no place to be making any kind of joke, but still managed to do so without consequence. Though this was the only time Anakin and General Grievous met, it is truly a highlight.

“Ahsoka Within You Will Be Everything I Am. All The Knowledge I Possess. Just As I Inherited Knowledge From My Master, and He From His. You Are Part of a Legacy.”

Ahsoka Season 1, Episode 5 “Shadow Warrior”

One of the coolest parts of Ahsoka episode 5 was that it gave audiences a look at a live-action Clone Wars, something that fans had been craving for years. In Ahsoka’s second flashback of the Siege of Mandalore, Anakin tells Ahsoka what her legacy is. At this point in the story, Ahsoka is struggling to come to terms with her part in this legacy, especially considering Anakin’s past as Darth Vader.

This moment shows how even though Anakin had turned to the dark side and eventually found his way back to the light, he still cared for Ahsoka in death. He knows that she never came to terms with his past, and therefore hadn’t come to terms with her past. Anakin knew exactly what to say to work these feelings of frustration out of her, while also showing her that she’s more than just her past—she is all of the Jedi that had come before.

Ahsoka Tano

The apprentice of Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano was an accomplished Padawan who served during the Clone Wars. Ahsoka left the Jedi after she became disillusioned with the Jedi Council, but returned to serve in the Siege of Mandalore at the end of the Clone Wars. She survived Order 66, becoming a Rebel agent during the Dark Times of the Empire’s reign, and her adventures continue in the New Republic era. Ahsoka was last seen stranded in a distant galaxy, having failed to prevent Grand Admiral Thrawn’s return.

“The Best Way I Can Protect You Is To Teach You How To Protect Yourself”

Tales of the Jedi Season 1, Episode 5 “Practice Makes Perfect”

Tales of the Jedi gave a great insight as to how Ahsoka Tano survived Order 66, and it seems that has a lot to do with Anakin Skywalker’s training. In the fifth episode of the animated shorts, Anakin tells his padawan that the best way for him to ensure her safety is to teach her how to protect herself. Anakin was trying to relay that he wasn’t disappointed in Ahsoka but saw greatness in her — she just wasn’t there yet.

This moment really highlights how good of a master Anakin was to Ahsoka. While his teaching often gets overlooked because of his cavalier style and the fact he eventually turned to the dark side, that shouldn’t take away from his success as a master. No matter Anakin’s actions, he was a good master who truly cared for Ahsoka’s best interest and safety.

“I Understand. More Than You Realize, I Understand Wanting to Walk Away From the Order.”

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 5, Episode 20 “The Wrong Jedi”

After Ahsoka Tano was framed for bombing the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, she lost faith in the Jedi Order. When she was acquitted, Ahsoka decided to leave the Jedi. Her choice hit Anakin hard and made him feel a bit like a failure because he couldn’t protect her. Ahsoka explains her decision to Anakin in a heartbreaking scene.

During their conversation, Anakin tells Ahsoka of his own reservations about staying with the Jedi. As audiences know, Anakin was secretly married to Padmé Amidala and considered leaving the Jedi so he could openly be with her. This is just another indication that Anakin’s loyalty didn’t sit with the Jedi and hints at him later abandoning them.

“Compassion, Which I Would Define as Unconditional Love, is Essential to a Jedi’s Life.”

Star Wars Episode II—Attack of the Clones

While describing what being a Jedi is like, Anakin Skywalker describes compassion as unconditional love to Padmé Amidala. Audiences can see how this statement is true throughout the Star Wars franchise. For example, even as she’s dying, Padmé shows compassion towards Anakin and tells Obi-Wan that there is still good in him.

This quote is a rare insight into the psyche of the Jedi. Over the years, more and more have begun to understand about how each Jedi understands the Force and their role as Jedi, but this was one of the first times Jedi had used the word “love.” For Anakin, this quote couldn’t ring more true as he often showed compassion for those he cared most for, whether that be Padmé, Ahsoka, or Obi-Wan.

“You Need to Be Able to Make It On Your Own. Don’t Be Afraid. Just Remember What I Taught You and Trust Your Instincts. I Know You Can Do This Ahsoka.”

Ahsoka Season 1, Episode 7 “Dreams and Madness”

From Ahsoka’s appearances in Star Wars Rebels, it’s known that Anakin made holorecordings for his padawan to help her keep up with her training. Ahsoka episode 7, gives audiences their first look at the live-action version of these recordings. Hayden Christensen returns to give Ahsoka guidance on her lightsaber form and tells her to continue to practice.

At the end of the recording, Anakin shows that he was a great master by encouraging her, and telling her he’s confident in her abilities. While these recordings were made during the Clone Wars, their message still rings true. Ahsoka was about to go up against unknown odds, and hearing Anakin’s message to her helped give her the strength and confidence to be successful. While these are just a few of Anakin Skywalker’s quotes, they all highlight different aspects of his character throughout Star Wars.

Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader Split By a Lightning Bolt

Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader

Conceived by the will of the Force itself, Anakin Skywalker was the prophesied Chosen One, destined to bring the Force into balance. Anakin struggled to balance competing attachments to the Jedi Order and his wife Padmé Amidala, and ultimately fell to the dark side, becoming Darth Vader. For years he served as Palpatine’s right hand man, but he was ultimately redeemed by the faith of his son, Luke Skywalker. Now a Force Ghost, Anakin continues to act as an agent of balance.
