Cobra Kai season 6 is on its way, and there is one action-comedy K-drama from 2017 that is perfect to watch while waiting for the Karate Kid show to return. Following the announcement that Cobra Kai season 6 was going to be the show’s final, Netflix revealed that season 6 will be split into three parts. The first two parts of Cobra Kai’s final season premiere in 2024, with the final batch of episodes arriving in 2025. Netflix is treating Cobra Kai’s final season as an event, further increasing the anticipation for the show’s return.

After five great seasons, it will not be easy for Netflix to find a Cobra Kai replacement, although series like Wednesday and One Piece could fill that role. Cobra Kai has a unique tone that makes it better than virtually every other legacy sequel or reboot. The series honored the characters and storylines of the original Karate Kid movies while also doing something new and modern with them. Interestingly, the best show to watch while waiting for Cobra Kai’s return premiered around a year before season 1 of the Karate Kid series debuted and is currently streaming on Viki.

Fight For My Way Is The Perfect K-Drama If You Like Cobra Kai

Fight For My Way has action, comedy, and romance

Fight For My Way is about a group of four friends who have to fight their way through life, sometimes metaphorically, sometimes literally. One of the show’s main characters is Dong-man, played by Park Seo-joon, who used to be a promising taekwondo fighter. Dong-man dreamed of becoming a professional and fighting for his country in the Olympics, which almost happened. However, once the series revisits Dong-man as an adult, he is no longer practicing taekwondo. Park Seo-joon’s character was forced to abandon his career after something that happened in 2007, leaving him hopeless and depressed.

Ae-ra, played by Kim Ji-won, also had big dreams during high school but failed to accomplish them. Fight For My Way sees both Park Seo-joon and Kim Ji-won’s characters slowly realizing they are not living the life they wanted until they decide to fight back. Ae-ra tries to pursue the career she always wanted, whereas Dong-man steps back into the ring and starts to train again. Similarly to Johnny Lawrence’s story in Cobra Kai, Dong-man finds in martial arts the strength and confidence he needed to rebuild his life after a series of misfortunes put him down.

Fight For My Way Is Not Just About Fights (Just Like Cobra Kai)

Fight For My Way is about second chances and fresh starts

Although Fight For My Way is a great show for those who like Cobra Kai, the 2017 K-drama is more than fights. Dong-man’s journey into reclaiming his dream of becoming a professional fighter is more important than the fights themselves, not to mention how the show also follows three other characters who have different careers. When Fight For My Way starts, Park Seo-joon’s Dong-man hasn’t fought in years and can barely look his old coach in the eyes. Dong-man is ashamed of something that happened 10 years ago and is adamant about never fighting again.

The Perfect Cobra Kai Sequel Sounds Too Perfect Not To Happen

Cobra Kai is concluding in 2025 after six seasons, but there is one great idea for a sequel series that is too perfect to not happen eventually.

It is only after witnessing what his career could have been like that Dong-man decides to step back into the ring and start practicing again, this time to fight MMA. Fight For My Way is more of a slice-of-life series than an action one, yet its fight scenes are a lot of fun. The first time Dong-man properly fights someone as an adult in the show is when his friend, Ae-ra, is being harassed by a group of men – similar to how Johnny saved Miguel at the beginning of Cobra Kai before becoming a sensei again.

Fight For My Way Is As Hilarious As Cobra Kai

Fight For My Way is a very funny K-drama

The Crazy Fantastic Four in Fight for my Way

Cobra Kai is a hilarious show that does not take itself too seriously while also respecting the legacy of the Karate Kid movies. Although the humor in Fight For My Way is different from the one in Cobra Kai, the shows are equally funny. Dong-man is a particularly hilarious character in Fight For My Way, especially when he is interacting with Kim Ji-won’s Ae-ra. Fight For My Way combines romance, humor, drama, and action in a way that not many K-dramas do, making it the perfect series to watch while waiting for Cobra Kai to return.

Fight For My Way is one of the best K-dramas for beginners, meaning it works greatly for those who have not watched a lot of Korean dramas before. The series, similar to most Korean dramas, only has one season consisting of 16 episodes. It tells a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end with no sequel hook, offering a great experience for those looking for something to binge. Fight For My Way may be different from Cobra Kai in a lot of ways, but they share some surprising similarities in terms of story and tone.
