Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 crew member Chef Jack Luby has expanded his career since the reality show wrapped. The Lisbon native had 14 years of experience when he joined the season under Captain Sandy Yawn. However, Chef Jack Luby had minimal experience working on superyachts, which showed in his performance at times. He made general basic mistakes that wouldn’t be expected of a seasoned chef. Nonetheless, he persisted and didn’t get involved in the drama that imploded around him with the Below Deck Med season 8 cast.

The season was tainted by Natalya Scudder and Tumi Mhlongo’s feud, promoted by their mutual friend Kyle Viljoen. Aside from a few other short-lived boatmances, Below Deck Med season 8 lacked entertainment value compared to past seasons of the spin-off. In return, Captain Sandy didn’t ask any of the Below Deck Med season 8 crew members back for season 9. Instead, she’s ushering in an almost completely new cast of yachties, including Chef Jack’s replacement, Chef Johnathan Shillingford. While he wasn’t asked back, Chef Jack has continued to thrive.

Chef Jack Luby Has Hung Out With Other Below Deck Alums

Chef Jack Spent Time With Below Deck Down Under Alums

Since Below Deck Med season 8, Chef Jack has hung out with his fellow franchise alumni. In an Instagram Reel, Check Jack created a workout-style parody with Below Deck Down Under alums Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph and deckhand Harry Van Vliet. They did a mock workout routine together that was a little cringy. “Who else is getting beach body ready?” Chef Tzarina wrote in the caption of the post. It’s interesting to see Chef Jack spending time with Below Deck Down Under alums rather than his former Below Deck Med crew.

Chef Jack Luby Has Continued To Be A Success In His Profession

Chef Jack Underwent A Personal Transformation

The chef has continued to improve his personal and professional life since Below Deck Med wrapped. Chef Jack hasn’t quit his job as a chef to reap the benefits of reality TV fame either. While he’s had years of experience in his profession, Chef Jack has continued to learn and grow as a chef. On Instagram, he shares pictures and videos of his dishes. In one post, Chef Jack said he attended a new masterclass where he made lemon curd, raspberry mousse, and strawberry and lemon tacos among several other interesting treats.

Instead of relying on his years of experience, Chef Jack has opted to learn and advance his career. He wasn’t the perfect chef on Below Deck Med season 8. Instead of being disappointed in his performance and being stagnant, Chef Jack took action and continued growing in his profession. He’s also embarked on a health journey, which includes eating better and working out. In an interview with The Messenger, Chef Jack said it was “weird” for him to look back on his time on Below Deck Med because of how much progress he’s made since filming.

“I’ve just spent the past year just training, working out, eating healthy and just trying to get a good mental mindset. When you’re a chef working on a yacht on a long charter, there’s rarely any time to look out after yourself.”

Chef Jack Luby’s Journey On Below Deck Mediterranean

What Was Chef Jack Like On Below Deck Med?

Chef Jack had an interesting journey on Below Deck Med season 8. He arrived with nearly 15 years of experience as a chef but only three years in the yachting industry. His lack of familiarity with the workflow on superyachts showed at times. Hailing from Liverpool, he had such a thick accent that it was hard for the other crew members to hear what he was saying. Chef Jack was criticized for some small mistakes, including how he cooked eggs and his cleanliness in the galley. However, he adjusted to the demands of the Mustique and ended strongly.

It’s uncertain if Chef Jack will ever return to Below Deck Med. Captain Sandy did not ask him to return for season 8, though she notably didn’t ask any of her previous crew from the season prior to returning. However, Chef Jack seemingly hinted at his fate with a shady caption on an Instagram post of him in Bali.Quit my job, moved to Bali #freedom,” he wrote under a picture of him facing a waterfall. Chef Jack’s post may have been written in good fun, but it also could be taken as an affirmation that he’s not returning to the franchise.

Chef Jack has transformed his life since his appearance on Below Deck Med season 8. The chef has started implementing healthier eating habits and a workout regimen. He’s continued working on his skills as a chef, frequently taking masterclasses from other professionals in his line of work. While Chef Jack wasn’t asked back for Below Deck Med season 9, he’s doing just fine without the reality series.
