More than two years after All of Us Are Dead premiered on Netflix, rewatching the show ahead of season 2 reveals some harsh truths about the hit zombie K-drama. One of the best Netflix original K-dramas, All of Us Are Dead was based on the webtoon Now In Our School. Set in the fictional city of Hyosan, the series follows a group of students as they try to survive the zombie apocalypse that had just started in their school. Full of action and with great twists, All of Us Are Dead season 1 was a great start for the show.

All of Us Are Dead’s finale changed the webtoon and left the door open for the show to continue. A few months after the first season arrived on Netflix, it was announced that All of Us Are Dead was going to return for another season. All of Us Are Dead season 2 still doesn’t have a release date, but revisiting the show two years later makes for an interesting rewatch nonetheless.

All Of Us Are Dead’s Love Triangle Doesn’t Work

All of Us Are Dead Didn’t Need A Love Triangle

All of Us Are Dead is a horror K-drama, which doesn’t mean the show doesn’t have a lot of romance. The series teased a potential love triangle involving Cheong-san, On-jo, and Su-hyeok, which did not work and was one of the least interesting parts of the show. Cheong-san liked On-jo, who liked Su-hyeok, who was Cheong-san’s best friend. Just as Cheong-san was about to face his fears and confess his feelings for On-jo, she asked Su-hyeok out on a date. Su-hyeok asked Cheong-san if he liked On-jo, but Cheong-san said not.

Fortunately, All of Us Are Dead’s love triangle did not last long. Although Su-hyeok accepted meeting On-jo later, he never actually had feelings for her. They remained as friends, which was for the best. Su-hyeok was in love with Nam-ra, who did not have a lot of friends at the school. Although Cheong-san only told On-jo how he felt at the end of the show, it’s clear that she also liked him but did not realize they were becoming more than just friends. All of Us Are Dead’s main couples were good enough without the need for a love triangle or quadrangle.

Lee Byeong-chan Is The Show’s Realm Monster

The zombies weren’t the real villains in All of Us Are Dead

All of Us Are Dead is a show about zombies, but the real monster of season 1 was Dr. Lee Byeong-chan. Although Dr. Lee’s research was born of a somewhat understandable feeling – he wanted to help people like his soon stand up against the bullies of the world – it quickly evolved into something reckless and perverse. Even after Lee Byeong-chan saw what the virus had done to his son, he continued his research. The professor believed strength had to come from anger, which made him very dangerous.

Dr. Lee was willing to disappear with his son’s body and kidnap a student if he meant continuing his research. Even after the Jonas virus led to a zombie outbreak that would later destroy the entire city, Lee Byeong-chan seemed strangely proud of what he accomplished before his death. The character smiled as he was about to become a zombie, almost as if he liked seeing his dream of weakness being turned into strength through anger come to life.

Eun-ji Deserved Better In All Of Us Are Dead

Eun-ji was a victim in All of Us Are Dead

Eun-ji was one of the most tragic characters in All of Us Are Dead. When viewers meet her, Eun-ji is being bullied and harassed by Gwi-nam and his friends. The girl had already denounced her abusers, but nothing happened. Without the help of the school, Eun-ji was on the verge of taking her own life and only did not do so because the outbreak started right as she was about to jump from the school’s rooftop. Eun-ji found strength during the apocalypse but in a rather sad way.

Eun-ji was attacked by a horde of zombies, yet she survived. The character became one of All of Us Are Dead’s hambies, which are zombies who retain their consciousness and can still live as humans. Still, hambies crave human brains just like every other zombie, meaning now Eun-ji had the urge to attack others. Eun-ji’s zombie transformation combined with all the anger she had made her into one of the show’s most dangerous characters. Whether Eun-ji is alive in All of Us Are Dead remains to be seen.

Na-yeon’s Character Was Wasted In All Of Us Are Dead

Na-yeon could still have been redeemed

Na-yeon did a terrible thing in All of Us Are Dead by purposefully infecting Gyeong-su with the zombie virus. Na-yeon and Gyeong-su were always arguing, and after the latter got a scratch that could be from a zombie attack, the former used it as an opportunity to infect him. Nae-yeon used a contaminated tissue to clean up Gyeong-su’s wound, causing him to transform into a zombie in front of his friends. Nam-ra saw what Nae-yeon did and exposed her, causing her to be expelled from the group.

All Of Us Are Dead Season 2 Will Make 1 Character’s Fate Even More Tragic

All of Us Are Dead season 2’s story will have to show the aftermath of season 1’s finale, and this will make one character’s fate much more tragic.

Despite Na-yeon’s actions, their teacher, Park Sun-hwa, decided to go after her. Sun-hwa didn’t want her Nae-yeon to die and believed the girl could still make up for her terrible mistake. The fact that Sun-hwa sacrificed herself for Nae-yeon to survive made it seem like there was going to be a redemption arc for the latter. Instead, Nae-yeon was killed by Gwi-nam shortly after the teacher died. Na-yeon’s death was anticlimactic and ruined what could have been a great character arc.

Gwi-nam Was Basically Invincible In All Of Us Are Dead

Nothing could kill Gwi-nam in All of Us Are Dead

Gwi-nam was a great villain in All of Us Are Dead, but he had way too much plot armor. While it is understandable that a hambie would survive things a human would not, Gwi-nam was defeated and came back several times throughout All of Us Are Dead. The first was before he turned into a hambie during his first fight against Cheong-san. Even though Gwi-nam was supposed to have died there, the character’s hate made him strong and turned him into a hambie.

Gwi-nam came close to killing Cheong-san a couple of times, but the group always found a way to escape. Gwi-nam was pushed out of windows, thrown down the stairs, and even punched by another hambie – yet he always came back. By the end of the show, Gwi-nam was ironically looking like a living corpse. Still, he found the strength to attack Cheong-san one more time, leading to All of Us Are Dead’s ultimate battle. Gwi-nam is presumably dead now, but if not even a bomb could destroy him, nothing else can.

On-jo Suffered The Most Tragedies In All Of Us Are Dead

On-jo lost her best friend, father, and boyfriend

Most of All of Us Are Dead’s characters suffered a lot in season 1, but On-jo is probably the one who went through the most. Shortly after the outbreak began, On-jo lost her best friend, I-sak – the first of the group to turn into a zombie. After watching a lot of other friends and colleagues die, On-jo watched her father sacrifice himself so that she could live. So-ju’s death happened just a few minutes after he reunited with On-jo, making it even more tragic. Less than an hour after So-ju’s death, Cheong-san also died.

All Of Us Are Dead Season 2’s Perfect Story Would Make It A Very Different Show

A popular All of Us Are Dead season 2 theory about the zombies would make the Netflix horror K-drama a very different show compared to season 1.

On-jo and Cheog-san had just had their first kiss when Gwi-nam showed up looking for revenge. In a heroic moment, Cheong-san stayed behind to fight Gwi-nam as the rest of the group, including On-jo, escaped. After years in which neither of them admitted they liked each other, the story of On-jo and Cheong-san came to a tragic end at the end of season 1. On-jo will now be very lonely in All of Us Are Dead season 2, which could be an interesting storyline for the show to explore.

So-ju’s Death In All Of Us Are Dead Was Anticlimactic After His Journey

So-ju died too soon in All of Us Are Dead

All of Us Are Dead’s title gave away that no one was safe, and the show lived up to it. From supporting characters with minimum screen time to some of the horror K-drama’s protagonists, no one was safe in All of Us Are Dead. That said, some deaths were anticlimactic and way too tragic, especially considering everything certain characters had gone through. This includes So-ju, On-jo’s father, who spent most of the show trying to reach the school and save his daughter.

As an experienced first responder, So-ju was ready for the zombie apocalypse and helped many people along the way. However, it came to a point where On-jo’s father had to make a choice – either he fulfilled his role as a first responder and tried to help as many people as he could, or he ignored everything and focused only on saving his daughter. So-ju chose the latter, and while he did help On-jo and her friends escape, he died right after it. This was one of the most tragic All of Us Are Dead’s deaths.

All Of Us Are Dead Season 2 Is Taking Too Long

When will All of Us Are Dead season 2 premiere?

The harshest reality about All of Us Are Dead season 1 is that, more than two years after it was released, season 2 doesn’t even have a release date. Although All of Us Are Dead was renewed by Netflix, little to nothing is known about season 2. No trailer has been released for season 2 either. The only official promotional materials for All of Us Are Dead season 2 have been two announcement videos released by Netflix, one of which featured the show’s main cast confirming the series was going to continue.

As frustrating as the wait for All of Us Are Dead season 2 is, it is not rare for a Korean web series to take more than two years to release a new season. For example, Sweet Home season 3 premiered three years after the release of the first one. Likewise, Squid Game season 2 will arrive three years after it became a global phenomenon on Netflix. All of Us Are Dead wasn’t included in Netflix’s 2024 K-content slate, but hopefully, the marketing campaign for season 2 will start soon.
