Fanart from Tom Hoskisson has presented a stunningly different version of the Justice League. It includes several iconic members, such as Batman, who are imagined in staggering alternatives to their original counterparts. The gritty twist is a welcome change that brings back the fun variant designs present in DC’s Elseworlds stories with key characterization built into the characters’ overall looks.

On Instagram, Tom Hoskisson shared his own variation on DC’s Justice League. Hoskisson is an Australian comic book artist who is well-known for his fan art that puts fun twist on iconic comic heroes. These have included merges of Batman with Wolverine, alternate variations of Robin, and variations on Spider-Man.

This twist on the Justice League is a primary focus on Hoskisson’s Patreon, which will eventually showcase a short comic involving the alternate team. The first work-in-progress has been focused on the alternate version of Wonder Woman with two pages being teased thus far.

Hoskisson’s Justice League Delivers Stunning Alternative Designs

Wonder Woman & Green Lantern Get Must-See Reimaginings

Hoskisson’s iteration of the Justice League features alternate versions of Green Lantern, Flash, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. The Green Lantern is one of the most notable designs, taking a far different approach to the hero’s design than has been seen from DC Comics involving the Green Lantern Corps. This fanart version takes on the look of a giant lantern-faced armored being that glows green. There has been a surprising lack of body armor and mech suit constructs from DC’s Green Lanterns, making this an especially fun twist given how the Corps is limited only by their imagination.

The alternate Batman is readily recognizable, but his cape has taken on an alternate cut. He brings back the purple gloves that the hero had in his debut and early adventures. Superman’s cape also has an alternate cut, with his emblem being a smaller pin on it instead of a large chest symbol. Wonder Woman’s alter is another major standout as she has a more rugged appearance, reminiscent of a barbarian, similar to the iconic Conan the Barbarian. Her design is vastly different from Diana’s original look, making it especially imaginative and intriguing.

The Justice League Remains Relevant After Sixty Plus Years

This Justice League iteration is a gritty and highly imaginative version that feels like a throwback to the peak of DC’s Elseworlds stories. These designs are very communicative, making any additional details eventually revealed about them and their backstories potentially fascinating. The fresh take breathes new life into characters who have been around for over eighty years, and who have been a team for over sixty, with complex histories and a myriad of adventures, which isn’t an easy feat to do. Nonetheless, the alternate story potential this fanart from Tom Hoskisson delivers reveals exactly what it is that makes DC’s Justice League a mainstay in comics – they are established, but can always be reimagined for new adventures and readers.
