WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for Batman: The Brave and the Bold #13!

A team-up between Green Lantern and Batman, coupled with the discovery of a new alien species in the DC Universe, has significantly changed the lore and powers of the Emerald Knight. Yet, what truly astounds is that fans may possess more knowledge about this extraterrestrial entity than even Batman and Green Lantern themselves, despite the latter being equipped with a comprehensive alien database on his finger.

Joshua Hale Fialkov, Lisandro Estherren, and Patricio Delpeche’s Batman and Green Lantern-centric narrative, The Invader, Part 1, is one of the five stories featured in Batman: The Brave and the Bold #13. In this installment, Batman reluctantly joins forces with Green Lantern Guy Gardner to investigate a UFO crash landing and locate its missing occupant.

Given his status as a Green Lantern, Guy Gardner should possess unmatched knowledge of all alien life forms courtesy of his ring. However, the Dark Knight and his Emerald counterpart soon encounter unexpected challenges related to the Ring, reshaping Green Lantern lore and unveiling new vulnerabilities.

In true Green Lantern fashion, Guy instructs his Power Ring to analyze the biomaterial and other evidence left at the scene of the UFO crash to identify the alien. However, the ring delivers an unprecedented response, revealing that there is only one similar entry dating back to Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. Batman quickly questions how it’s possible for the ring to know nothing about the species they are investigating, emphasizing that “The Guardians know literally everything in the universe. Consequently, DC has significantly diminished the all-knowing stature of the Guardians of the Universe with this revelation.

Not only do the Guardians appear to be less all-knowing than previously believed, but Guy’s Power Ring is also revealed to be vulnerable to psychic damage, a weakness it once seemed impervious to. Suddenly, the Green Lantern Ring becomes scrambled, prompting Batman to suggest that psychic interference may be the cause. However, Guy, directly connected to his ring, explains that nothing should be able to psychically interfere with him. However, it’s evident that this is no longer the case, unveiling a new vulnerability of the ring.

Green Lantern Lore Has Definitely Changed, But Is DC Also Building Up to a Guy Gardner Lore Change?

There are undoubtedly some significant Green Lantern lore and power shifts in Batman: The Brave and the Bold #13. However, there might also be forthcoming changes specific to Guy Gardner’s lore. At the start of the issue, fans witness Batman enduring a psychic assault that dredges up his most haunting memories—his parents’ murder and the death of his son, Jason Todd. Given Guy’s newfound vulnerability to psychic attacks, his own darkest memories could soon be unveiled to fans, adding further layers to his character. It will be intriguing to see the direction this Batman and Green Lantern adventure takes.
