The Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner shared a Memorial Day post on Instagram about spending the day with his family, and it divided fans after his and Theresa Nist’s divorce announcement. Gerry, a 72-year-old retired restaurateur from Hudson, Indiana, and Theresa, a 70-year-old financial services professional from Shrewsbury, New Jersey, met, fell in love, and got engaged during The Golden Bachelor season 1. They were married on January 4, 2024 in a live, televised event called the Golden Wedding. However, just three months later, they announced that they were getting a divorce because they couldn’t decide where to live because neither one of them wanted to leave their family.

“Memorial Day weekend was so much fun with all the family around.”

In an Instagram post, Gerry shared a photograph of himself and his family spending time together on a boat on Memorial Day, set to Samuel Jack’s upbeat song, “Feels Like Summer.” He captioned the photo, “Memorial Day weekend was so much fun with all the family around. Boat rides, tearing it up on the jetskis with granddaughter Charlee and tons of great food provided by both Jenny & Jon and Angie & Rob. Love my family.” In the comments section, fans’ reactions were mixed. One person wrote, “Like nothing ever happened. Time to unfollow,” while others defended Gerry, reminding them that Theresa was also unwilling to move to Indiana.

Will The Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner Ever Shake Off Villain Status?

Gerry Can Redeem Himself After Missteps On The Golden Bachelor

Gerry has been painted as a villain, not only because of his and Theresa’s divorce, but also because he’s been accused of lying about his dating history after his wife Toni passed away. Gerry was portrayed on The Golden Bachelor as someone who hadn’t dated since he lost his wife, but he allegedly had a long-term girlfriend before the show. Although Gerry seems to be stuck in his bad guy status, it’s possible that he could redeem himself. Many Bachelor Nation villains have been redeemed throughout the years, and Gerry is not even close to the level of some of them.

Gerry could find ways outside of reality television to change his image, including sharing more social media posts with his loved ones that would show that he’s a devoted family man. It’s also possible that he could return to reality TV, as a contestant on Joan Vassos’ Golden Bachelorette season. Despite her strong connection with Gerry, Joan had to leave his season early. It would be interesting to see them pick up where they left off, but some fans might think it’s too soon for Gerry to move on. He might be better suited for a show such as Dancing With The Stars, which would allow fans to see a different side of his personality.

Bachelor Nation must remember that there are two sides to every story. Only Gerry and Theresa truly know what went wrong in their relationship. If it really was as simple as them getting caught up in the fantasy of the show, and then not being able to translate that relationship into the real world, then there’s no reason why Gerry should have to be thought of as the villain. They seem to have ended their marriage on good terms, and they even expressed that they still love each other. Gerry deserves peace after the whirlwind of The Golden Bachelor, and he seems to be finding it with his beautiful family.
