A twist in The Wheel of Time season 2 finale laid the groundwork for a future main character to get a different story when they eventually join the fold. In the course of two seasons, Prime Video’s adaptation of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time books has made the show’s willingness to change certain elements of the source material abundantly clear. That approach was also applied to The Wheel of Time season 2’s ending, which brought the final chapters of The Great Hunt to life on the small screen.

The fundamental parts of The Great Hunt’s finale happened as they did in the book, with Rand taking down Turak, Rand defeating Ishamael before the eyes of everyone in Falme, and Mat summoning the Heroes of the Horn. The specific details of these moments, on other hand, differed from what happened in The Great Hunt, such as the decision to have Egwene defend Rand from Ishamael. Some of these changes may only be superficial in the long run, but that may not be the case for one in particular. The addition of Uno to the Heroes of the Horn could matter greatly to a future main character’s storyline.

Uno Is Giadal Cain – What That Means For Birgitte Silverbow

According to Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins, Uno is the TV show’s version of Gaidal Cain, a legendary warrior and a Hero of the Horn. This makes sense, because if Uno is the reincarnation of an important hero from the Pattern, that would provide a working explanation for the character showing up again later as a Hero of the Horn. This is a crucial development, especially since Gaidal Cain was involved in a romance with Birgitte Silverbow, a hero who served as a key ally to characters like Nynaeve and Elayne in the books.

After Birgitte Silverbow’s non-speaking cameo in the Wheel of Time season 2 finale and the introduction of Tel’aran’rhiod, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before she follows in the footsteps of her book counterpart. When that happens, the show will have the tools it needs to put a surprising twist on her story. There was a hint of flirtation between Uno and Birgitte Silverbow during their interactions in the later books, but it was never explored in depth. But then again, that version of Uno was not her lover reborn.

Uno’s Birgitte Connection Means He Can Easily Return In Season 3

Because he’s Gaidal Cain, Uno could easily appear in Elayne and Nynaeve’s Tanchico storyline

Uno riding a horse in Wheel of Time

Thanks to the decision to merge Gaidal Cain and Uno into one character, The Wheel of Time has an easy way to continue bringing him into the narrative. He could be particularly relevant in The Wheel of Time season 3, considering that it’s adapting The Shadow Rising, the book where Birgitte’s story begins. Because she’s expected to be in Tel’aran’rhiod (along with the rest of the Heroes of the Horn) when she gets swept into the fight against Moghedien, it wouldn’t be implausible for him to appear as a part of that arc, just as Gaidal Cain did in the book.
